When the writing and the direction are this excellent and the actors every bit as good, scenes just soar. The silences are as powerful as the dialogue, and every conversation is bound to shift the interpersonal dynamics, often profoundly. Go to Full Review

It’s the sort of series where, at the end, you look back and realise quite how close to demented the affairs of state — and the loins — have been and how much you don’t mind. Not when it’s this savvy and entertaining. Go to Full Review

It’s smart, except when it’s dumb. Go to Full Review

Here is the bitter core that Season 3 refuses to spit out: Competence, when performed by a woman, becomes a service. It is not a path to authority. It is a tool for smoothing male ascendance. Go to Full Review

“The Diplomat” is one of those rare series that seems to have gotten better with each season, largely because of smart casting additions around star Keri Russell. Go to Full Review

Mark A. @drfoto 4d A cast whose acting chops are perfectly complimented by compelling storylines, few series so consistently create intensity and drama from scene to scene. If you enjoy political drama that leaves you breathless with its pace, start with S1 E1 and don’t miss a single episode. See more Stuart L 6d The third season is a collapse. Utter nonsense from start to finish. Poorly written garbage. Some great actors trying to make the best of it. See more Nanna J Nov 29 The writing in season 3 is off, the relationships make little to no sense. They spend no time in the build up to a pivotal relationship. The political saavy is lack luster. I am so disappointed because I loved the first two seasons. Two and a half stars because the acting is excellent! See more BD M Nov 29 An impossible to believe soap opera. It was hard to finish. See more GRAHAM F Nov 27 It seems that our leading lady is turning into a parody of an English (or other language) lecturer, parading around with an air of smugness as they do. In the finale we are supposed to believe that a decision was made purely by The President, and vice President..that could and has had global problem implications,The decision was made by just the 2 of them ignoring all the real life layers of specialists, that they would have had to consult.meanwhile our PM is apparently getting dumber and more stubborn by the day Thinking about what he wants, and not what is best for the country.I can definitely wait for the next series. A UK Prime Minister, fostering a closer relationship with China??OK some bits are accurate. See more Cris R Nov 24 In the Upsidedown where we live since 2020 someone so unethical to plot both the overthrow of the closest ally PM, and to skip electoral process is now an empowered woman sleeping with a foreign spy - an illegal foreign contact. This show ought to be taught to beginner FSOs on exactly what to never do. The heroine here is immoral, and strings illegal acts together with aplomb. Yet I like it even though the protagonist continues to prove she’s a mean, selfish and most of all arrogant woman only emboldened by kingmakers in the White House who confirm the illusions. I keep hoping someone does the right thing - recall the ambo, fire her and her husband gives her a divorce she’s done everything to earn. On top of that, the 800 subordinates are sidelined so that only she can solve the day while not trusting anyone or securing sensitive information. This show must be the imagining and fever dream of a center of left feminist writer who thinks powerful women throw F bombs and don’t care how they look because society expects them to look professional.
