What to Know

Critics Consensus

While Geralt of Rivia gets a new face, The Witcher overall is beginning to grow stale in a fourth season that dutifully sets up the series' endgame without having enough fun along the way.

Ed Power Daily Telegraph (UK) [Chris Hemsworth's] quietly ridiculous turn is nonetheless perfectly attuned to a show that harks back to the days before fantasy was cool and gets by (just about) on sheer silliness. Rated: 3/5 Oct 31, 2025 Full Review Clint Worthington RogerEbert.com Perhaps it’s fitting that we only have to toss a coin to our witcher once more after this. Oct 30, 2025 Full Review Nick Hilton Independent (UK) No amount of imaginative swordplay or inventive creature design can prevent the sense that The Witcher is now what all sword and sorcery epics fear becoming: pure bilge. Rated: 2/5 Oct 30, 2025 Full Review Alex Maidy JoBlo's Movie Network There is action, sex, violence, bloodshed, twists, turns, and lots of monsters, but none of it feels repetitive or rote. The Witcher continues to live up to expectations and, for the first time, has exceeded mine. Rated: 8/10 Nov 14, 2025 Full Review Mel Campbell ABC Radio (Australia) It took me a while to remember where all the characters were in the story, and in fact who a lot of them were. … The unfortunate thing is that [Hemsworth] is just not as monumental as Cavill. It’s a slightly gentler version than the mean, hulking Cavill. Nov 7, 2025 Full Review Lissete Lanuza Sáenz Fangirlish Not even Hemsworth being a really good Geralt nor the chemistry he has with Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer can change the fact that the season feels distinctly like not much actually happened. Stephen P Pleasantly surprised way better than season 3 and better story telling, some epic fight scene's Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/15/25 Full Review Spurs M Sadly, despite enormous wealth of source material, this show is failed by appalling editing and dreadful narrative. The show jumps around between scenes and times and the viewer is somehow expected to know who is who and what is happening, without any real character depth or context. Hemsworth gets criticised because Cavill was superb but the truth is that Hemsworth is fine, it si the editing, narrative, and general storytelling that fails completely. Don't bother watching it anymore. They need to start again with a reboot of season 1 and this time, do it coherently, logically, and properly. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/15/25 Full Review Bob R Haven't read the books, but from this n00b's perspective, Season 4 jumped the shark. It felt like it was written in Comic Sans. I laughed out loud many times, and not because that's what the writers were going for ... although it did seem almost like they actively dislike the characters and source material ... I've never thought of Henry Cavill as a great actor, but when the characterization, plotting and dialogue are stale and off-key, you're left with the impression that he may have been holding it together -- or at least the last one taking it seriously. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/15/25 Full Review Maja M I know its very trendy to hate on this show but I actually think this season is really good. previous seasons were great insult to books and characters and I didn't like them at all but you can tell they took lot of the criticism in account and tried better this season. Loss of Cavill and recast sucks and unfortunely Liam is not such a good actor so he's a week link, but beyond that it's miles better than season 2 and 3 was and much more faithful to spirit of the books and The Witcher. Everyone else put in amazing performances. You can also tell lot of people complaining haven't read the books and don't see that change for the better. I am actually enjoying this one! if they did the show like this from the start this whole show would do much better sadly it only came in season 4. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/15/25 Full Review Ryan K It seems like season four is very poorly written. So many scenes are terribly predictable and the dialog is painfully stupid and full of awful puns. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/15/25 Full Review Clive M Here is a series that could have been one of the best. Not only the departure of Henry, the story line was all over the place and the actors not believable. Most of it looked like a school play.
