What to Know

Critics Consensus

While Geralt of Rivia gets a new face, The Witcher overall is beginning to grow stale in a fourth season that dutifully sets up the series' endgame without having enough fun along the way.

[Chris Hemsworth's] quietly ridiculous turn is nonetheless perfectly attuned to a show that harks back to the days before fantasy was cool and gets by (just about) on sheer silliness. Go to Full Review

Perhaps it’s fitting that we only have to toss a coin to our witcher once more after this. Go to Full Review

No amount of imaginative swordplay or inventive creature design can prevent the sense that The Witcher is now what all sword and sorcery epics fear becoming: pure bilge. Go to Full Review

There is action, sex, violence, bloodshed, twists, turns, and lots of monsters, but none of it feels repetitive or rote. The Witcher continues to live up to expectations and, for the first time, has exceeded mine. Go to Full Review

It took me a while to remember where all the characters were in the story, and in fact who a lot of them were. … The unfortunate thing is that [Hemsworth] is just not as monumental as Cavill. It’s a slightly gentler version than the mean, hulking Cavill. Go to Full Review

Rauno V @RT61349838 22h That's just really awful... So much gay and lesbian stuff forced into it, characters are so weak. We had strong roughed up and now some soft BS... Feel is off, some musical mixed into it... fire these producers and writers, they are just braindead. There are some nice additions of characters, but they can't save the shit you have done here. See more Dale Danger R @RT37311645 1d Terrible, the Witcher is all but relegated to a supporting character in favour of the girlbosses Ciri and Yennifer. Season 1&2 were great 3 was hit or miss 4 was straight garbage. Due to Cavill’s exit and a bunch of woke agenda following writers who have gotten their knowledge of the Witcher lore from google searches and a brief read of the Wikipedia entry. See more Eddy F. @EdFigueroaSWFL 2d Season 4 of The Witcher feels like a show that lost the plot in every way that matters. Henry Cavill leaving is a massive loss, but the bigger issue is what his exit represents. Cavill seemed to understand Geralt, the books, and the tone of the world better than the people steering the series. Geralt is not a generic fantasy hero with a sword. He is exhausted, conflicted, sarcastic, dangerous, loyal, and quietly emotional. Cavill brought that balance because he respected the source material and cared about getting the character right. Season 4 feels hollow. It has the monsters, costumes, names, and magic, but very little soul. Liam Hemsworth was put in an impossible position, but the writing does not help him. Henry Cavill should have been appreciated for wanting to protect Sapkowski’s work, not pushed aside for it. He may have been the one thing keeping it connected to what fans loved. See more Tshepo M @RT71334537 3d Wow 🤯 what a boring season that was the writes thinking I didn't even finish the series, I was lost didn't understand the story line anymore, this was bad please don't make season 5. See more Maciej G @RT53972023 3d They turned this wonderful series of stories into something unwatchable. It has zero to do with the feel and vibe of the Witcher. What a disservice to the fans of the titular character. The writers should be fired. As a matter of fact, worth cancelling Netflix in protest. See more B. S @starkeyb 4d witcher is too emotional and strays too far from the essence of Geralts character. the new actor is good and I do like Liam. problem is Henry fits it better. The writing doesnt seem to hold the same weight as before. I dont think its the delivery of the lines i think its the lines. See more Read all reviews
