What to Know

Critics Consensus

While Geralt of Rivia gets a new face, The Witcher overall is beginning to grow stale in a fourth season that dutifully sets up the series' endgame without having enough fun along the way.

[Chris Hemsworth's] quietly ridiculous turn is nonetheless perfectly attuned to a show that harks back to the days before fantasy was cool and gets by (just about) on sheer silliness. Go to Full Review

Perhaps it’s fitting that we only have to toss a coin to our witcher once more after this. Go to Full Review

No amount of imaginative swordplay or inventive creature design can prevent the sense that The Witcher is now what all sword and sorcery epics fear becoming: pure bilge. Go to Full Review

There is action, sex, violence, bloodshed, twists, turns, and lots of monsters, but none of it feels repetitive or rote. The Witcher continues to live up to expectations and, for the first time, has exceeded mine. Go to Full Review

It took me a while to remember where all the characters were in the story, and in fact who a lot of them were. … The unfortunate thing is that [Hemsworth] is just not as monumental as Cavill. It’s a slightly gentler version than the mean, hulking Cavill. Go to Full Review

Not even Hemsworth being a really good Geralt nor the chemistry he has with Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer can change the fact that the season feels distinctly like not much actually happened. Go to Full Review

Aguia C @Maxrazer 3d They completely destroyed the series by making it woke. I couldn't get by the 3rd show in season 4. I completely understand why Henry Carvill left the series. Good for him. I wouldn't want to be associated with this new direction. I hope you're happy with marketing to 13% of the audience, if that. Season 3 was the end of the series for me See more Stephen S @TakeNote 4d As a fan I wanted to like season 4, but it’s poorly written, removes the high-stakes feel the world had before, and treats every scene like checking off a to-do list of plot points. If they made season 1 with this style, the famous Child of Surprise wedding — the floating scene that lasted a few minutes with barely any words — would’ve been cut, and you’d just get a couple characters narrating it instead. If that sounds awful… welcome to season 4 of The Witcher. See more Gregory H @DrGellar 4d Horrible writing. Everything is forced. Hemsworth's God awful attempt at the growl is simply ridiculous. They ruined the show. I'm honestly glad Cavill isn't in this season. It seems he escaped a train wreck See more Michael R. @HammerHorn11 5d Season 4 is better than most people are giving it credit. Liam as Geralt is surprisingly decent. The magic and fighting were amped up this season. Lawrence Fishburne was a good addition. The downside is the Ciri storyline was boring. I just wanted it to end most of the time. The entire show lacks urgency it should have considering viewership is dwindling quickly. See more Afonso S 5d Ridiculous, Vera bad. See more Don R 5d Liam Hemsworth did a good job, but the story was terrible. There was no action, no intrigue. He fought on monster in the last episode - well except for the opening scene. The story was lame and drawn out and concluded with nothing. The writers need to be criticized here, not the actors. See more Read all reviews
