Kit Hood was born in the U.K., where he was a child actor before becoming a film editor. In 1967, Hood moved to Canada, and, in '76, he and Linda Schuyler formed Playing with Time, which produced educational films and documentaries, including "Jimmy Playing with Time," "Ida Makes a Movie," and "Noel Buys a Suit." These films lead the two to create the Canadian television series "The Kids of Degrassi Street," which debuted on CBC in '79 and ran until '86. Hood and Schuyler followed up with the spin-off series "Degrassi High" during the following year, and both shows have been syndicated around the world and in many languages. In '91, Hood and Schuyler stopped producing the show, and split the company. Hood chose to pursue films, and, after making the Degrassi TV movie "School's Out" and a Degrassi documentary "Degrassi Talks," he made the '93 TV movie "X-Rated" and the biography "Strauss: The King of 3/4 Time." After directing a '95 episode of the CBC series "Avonlea," Hood helmed the film "Dancing on the Moon," starring future "24" star Elisha Cuthbert. In 2003, the Canadian CTV network and the Nickelodeon channel began airing an updated series "Degrassi: The Next Generation," and while Hood was no longer involved directly, he received credit as a co-creator of the characters.
