Laurie McCarthy is an American writer/producer, arguably best known for her work on the popular supernatural program "Ghost Whisperer." The show, which ran for five seasons before being cancelled in 2010, focused on a woman who communicates with wayward spirits and eases them into the afterlife. In the mid-1990s, McCarthy got her start working on the FOX vampire show "Kindred: The Embraced" as a writer. The show was cancelled after only eight episodes. Showtime showed interest in continuing with the program, but star Mark Frankel was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident, effectively ending negotiations. She also wrote and/or co-produced a number of shows, including the primetime teen soap opera "Beverly Hills, 90210," the drama "Felicity," and the USA Network crime drama "Cover Me: Based on the True Life of an FBI Family." McCarthy also co-created the short-running primetime drama "Windfall," about 20 people in a small town who win a multimillion-dollar lottery.
