Cristina Escobar RogerEbert.com An adventure worthy of its budget, with a set of heroes worthy of our allegiance, attention, and admiration. Jun 27, 2025 Full Review John Anderson Wall Street Journal “Nautilus” is a hard series not to like, given it has very few pretentions, a devotion to high adventure and a freewheeling approach to killing off characters and twisting the plot -- all the while maintaining some fealty to Verne. Jun 27, 2025 Full Review Benji Wilson Daily Telegraph (UK) Nautilus barrels along with the best intentions, is at times exciting… but its characters do say some corny old cobblers. Rated: 3/5 Oct 28, 2024 Full Review M.N. Miller FandomWire Nautilus is lavish, but it can’t outrun its current fate or quite capture the thrill of a true swashbuckling adventure, nor is it likely to become a future cult classic. Rated: 4 Jun 27, 2025 Full Review Rob Owen Pittsburgh Tribune-Review The show is in the same league as some other Disney+ series circa 2022-23 (think: “National Treasure: Edge of History,” “American Born Chinese”), but “Nautilus” is a wholesome outsider on AMC. Jun 24, 2025 Full Review Mel Campbell ScreenHub Nautilus isn’t for purists, but it’s well made and solidly entertaining. And as we’re forced to witness the global atrocities of late-stage Western imperialism, it’s refreshing to relax with some escapist anti-colonialism and anti-capitalism. MORE M Great fun binge watched the whole show. We need a 2nd season Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/12/25 Full Review Justin M I am loving this show. The CGI is decent, the acting while sometimes a little over the top, is decent and the storyline is exciting. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/25 Full Review Henry C It is incomprehensible to me why Disney would ditch this show considering that it does a good job of indirectly criticising colonialism and has a diverse cast - which unlike other Disney productions was actually well done in this case, without the social/political pandering we're used to from them! This also makes me wonder why those few critics who've seen it would be so harsh of it. The show is simply fun! The Victorian 'steampunk' aesthetics, top notch generated tropical lands and fictionalised creatures, as well as the action and the storyline itself, are all true to Verne's vision if albeit with some license (as you might expect from an adapted prequel). My biggest gripe is that as things stand it appears that there won't be a second season. Amazon bought the rights but has evidently made no effort to promote the show. A huge loss on their part. And ours! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/25 Full Review Craig B Despite what some fuddy duddy 'professional' critics may say, Nautilus is a fun, action-packed adventure series for the whole family. With serviceable acting, a likeable cast, and stunning visuals, this is an enjoyable series... as long as you take it for what it is... a fantastical adventure. Don't take it too seriously and you should enjoy the ride. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/18/24 Full Review Steve A First episode not bad. Deteriorated horrendously thereafter. Terrible script amateurish acting. Spent a fortune making this which could have been so good. It's like the script writers ran out of ink so didn't bother. Honestly don't waste your time. It's doesn't even qualify for tongue in cheek quirky. Just plain appalling. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/08/24 Full Review Tim S For what it sets out to be - it's a great show; Not a million miles from Verne's original backstory, the SteamPunk Victoriana shines - especially the outrageous Dreadnought. Disney's Nautilus (as a submarine) is still the superior design - and this one perhaps has too many echoes of Stingray, but I can live with that. the CGI algorithms that proliferate in cinema today, are clearly in (good)use. As always, though, it lives or dies on the ensemble playing. It's possibly a bit of a large entourage to make that work really well, but there are cheesy personalities which mix and match in a generally appealing and mischievous way. I loved it.
