What to Know

Critics Consensus

We Were Liars might be Succession-lite, but its juicy family dynamics mixed with psychological intrigue will leave viewers amply satisfied and quietly shattered.

Anita Singh Daily Telegraph (UK) References to King Lear and fairytales are laid on thick. At least it’s pleasant to look at, like a Duchess of Sussex moodboard come to life. Rated: 2/5 Jun 25, 2025 Full Review Angie Han The Hollywood Reporter In such a vast sea of stories about miserable rich white people, it’s hard to feel moved by the glacially paced awakening of one pampered princess coming to realize, at the big age of 16, that there might be more to life than partying. Jun 18, 2025 Full Review Aramide Tinubu Variety A twisted and compelling series about family, entitlement and consequences. Though the final two episodes aren’t as powerful as they could have been, the show is still worth the ride. Jun 18, 2025 Full Review Tatat Bunnag Bangkok Post For all its visual appeal and hints at deeper themes, the series doesn't quite hold up under closer scrutiny. Jul 9, 2025 Full Review Polly Conway Common Sense Media This soapy teen series is a fun summer diversion, but it doesn't bring much new to the table aside from a wild ending twist. Jun 30, 2025 Full Review Mini Anthikad-Chhibber The Hindu Dreadful writing, zero chemistry between the leads, a plot twist that comes too late and animal cruelty effectively bury this adaptation of E. Lockhart’s YA psychological thriller Jun 27, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Angela B I bing watched this. It was really good for a teen drama. I would recommend it. It had a good story line. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/30/25 Full Review Carey B The ending...was worth the boring parts and the drawn out rich white snob drama and teenage hormones. If not for the ending I would rate less. But the ending was unexpected and pulled it together in a twisted kind of way. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/29/25 Full Review Caleb J. This is a story about a deranged teen girl and her entitled family who are given a false sense of morality by a self-righteous immigrant who thinks that the man who has welcomed him into his estate for a decade is evil. Seriously though, the only redeemable character in this story, besides Ed, is Harris, and the narrative makes him out to be the evil old white man until the end. All while the ungrateful children, whom he’s provided everything for, burn all that he holds dear to the ground and are heralded as the heroes. If the story was told from the perspective of the grandpa, and how sad it is to see your family go so awry and everything fall apart, there would have been a redeeming Book of Job feel to it. Instead, we are supposed to pull for the indulgent, insane, unrepentant granddaughter. One star. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/24/25 Full Review Kyrsten P. Absolutely love it. Love the fairy tale references, haven't read the book yet but the show was great, definitely will read it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/23/25 Full Review Tom D Strong performances by Caitlin Fitzgerald, Mamie Gummer and Esther McGregor and Joe Zada - there are terrible performances by Emily Lind Plec and the kid who plays Gat. Its an odd mix of Succession and a teen thriller that could have and should have been so much better - I'm just not sure what went wrong . I stuck to the end yet knew the twist (that shocked so many ) three episodes in. The describable behavior of the lead character turned me off and her clumsy romance with Gat was cumbersome. It should have been so much better, Maybe Julie Plec should have thrown in a vampire or two. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/22/25 Full Review Pratikshya S Truly engaging story. Worth watching. Highly recommend for people loving mysteries and friendship . Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/21/25 Full Review Read all reviews
