Nick Gehlfuss was born in Cleveland, OH, growing up in the Little Italy section of the city's University Park neighborhood. Gehfluss traveled across his home state to study theater at Mariette College, before leaving Ohio altogether to earn an M.F.A. in acting from University of Missouri-Kansas City. Gehlfuss began his acting career with a voice role in the children's film "Sam Steele and the Junior Detectives" (2009), though he soon after put his looks to good use with live-action roles. Gehlfuss collected one-off parts on popular television dramas like "The Good Wife" (CBS 2009-16), "Blue Bloods" (CBS 2010-), and "Person of Interest" (CBS 2011-16) before landing his first recurring role: Gehlfuss joined the second season of "The Newsroom" (HBO 2012-15) as a member of the legal team hired to defend the central network in a First Amendment battle. Gehlfuss' "Newsroom" stint led to even more formidable roles. He joined the American dramedy series "Shameless" (Showtime 2011-) in its fourth season, playing the disloyal brother of series regular Jake McDorman's character Mike Pratt. Along with a return to the big screen via the Brian Wilson biopic "Love & Mercy" (2015), in which Gehlfuss played fellow Beach Boy Bruce Johnson, the coming years would ingratiate the actor into producer Dick Wolf's growing Chicago-based TV franchise. Gehlfuss joined the series "Chicago P.D." (NBC 2014-), "Chicago Fire" (NBC 2012-), and "Chicago Med" (NBC 2015-) as expert surgeon Will Halstead.
