Wolff’s performance stands out for its overall complexity, while Kramer is, in the German style, not afraid to be simply unlikeable. While a couple instalments feel padded, this is a deserved word-of-mouth hit that holds together to its final moments. Go to Full Review

...although its premise may seem repetitive, Unfamiliar manages to maintain interest . It doesn't seek to redefine the genre, but rather to execute it with precision. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Unfamiliar is a tale that never fully comes together, though it does try awfully hard. Go to Full Review

Unfamiliar is the rare thriller that lays out just enough story in its first episode to engage viewers, while leaving them in the dark about things without making them feel like they’re being manipulated. Go to Full Review

Mo P. @Mopal 1d Kept my interest. Liked the characters and actors. Had to rewind a bit to follow the plot but overall this was good and entertaining. See more Tony S @TOzzie Feb 20 Tremendous storytelling, it’s a spy story with a series of human back stories, where decisions made years ago, well motivated but concealed from family members, come back to bite, and then play out in messy fashion. The intricacies of the story make it compulsively watchable. I love watching spy stories and accept that not all of the plot events read as typical high-quality tradecraft. But so many espionage thrillers involve suspension of disbelief (eg. Le Carre’s Karla and his daughter) in order to keep the plot going. Just as many real life espionage disasters are driven by psychology and personal needs, not just by money or political persuasion ( read the history of the CIA or MI5 as well as KGB and you’ll see the combination of strange characters in that business). I enjoy the directing and design style from Germany, different from US or UK, but very compelling just like the French did The Bureau so well. See more Paul H Feb 18 Gripping TV. Excellent acting and action throughout. I really liked the couple a lot. Their "daughter" was also very convincing. Her poor boyfriend... My only quibble (very minor and no impact on the show really) is the husband's 30 minute recovery from his "stroke" - not sure how that happened! Series 2+ desperately needed...
