Nino D'Angelo
A popular Italian singer, Nino D'Angelo has also been a film actor, scriptwriter, composer, and director. A native of Naples, he was from a poor family and had to leave school and go to work at a young age. He achieved success early as a singer and began acting in theater. His first screen role was in the 1981 film "Celebrità," a rags-to-riches story similar to his own, in which he played a singer who gains fame. In 1983 he starred in and wrote the screenplay for the musical film "Un jeans e una maglietta" ("A Pair of Jeans and a T-shirt") following the album release of the same name. The album was a hit and the film cemented his reputation as an Italian star, even if the critics paid him little serious attention at the time. As his singing career continued, he remained active in cinema, directing two films, including "Aitanic" in 2000, which he also wrote, starred in, and composed music for. Among his acting roles he played a traveling salesman in the romance " Fatalità" in 1992 and had a supporting role in auteur Pupi Avati's 2003 comedic drama "Incantato." In 1998 his music for the film "Tano da morire" won a David di Donatello Award.
