Patrick Drolet

An immensely talented actor, Patrick Drolet proved equally adept at comedy and drama. The same year he graduated from l'École nationale de théâtre du Canada, Patrick Drolet won a Gémeaux for his performance on the aliens-next-door sitcom "Ayoye!" (Radio-Canada, 2001-03). His professional momentum increased with an acclaimed performance as a devoutly spiritual young man grappling with a traumatized doctor (Élise Guilbault) in the drama "La neuvaine" ("The Novena") (2005), for which he won a Best Actor Award from the Locarno International Film Festival, as well as a nomination for a Best Actor Jutra. After supporting turns in the midlife crisis dramedy "Le grand départ" (2008) and the fish-out-of-water comedy "Le bonheur de Pierre" ("A Happy Man") (2009), Drolet delighted audiences and critics with his Best Supporting Actor Genie-nominated turn as the suicidal son of a lawyer (Rémy Girard) retained by a gang of bikers in the hilarious "De père en flic" ("Father and Guns"). The film, which used a comedy action framework to focus on its more universal tale of fathers, sons and their inevitable clashes and misunderstandings, proved so popular that it immediately sparked talk of an American remake. Drolet earned more plaudits as the adult version of tragic composer André Mathieu in the biopic "L'enfant prodige" ("The Child Prodigy") (2010) and recurred on the medical series "Trauma" (Radio-Canada, 2010- ).
