Paul Leni
Former avant-garde painter and poster/set designer who began his film career as artistic adviser to German director Joe May. Leni directed his first film in 1916 and is best known for the expressionist classic, "Three Wax Works" (1924). He arrived in Hollywood in 1927 and made four influential horror films for Universal before his premature death from septicemia.
