A popular and creative figure on the comedy and theater circuit in Los Angeles and New York, actress and comedian Scout Durwood parlayed her unique blend of stand-up and musical theater into several well-received solo showcases, as well as her own series, the subversive comedy "Mary + Jane" (MTV 2016). Born October 11, 1983 in Mission Hills, Kansas, Durwood earned a degree in Political and Social Activism Through Theater from Amherst College, where she launched her first one-woman show, "Adym and Stevie," as part of her studies. She relocated to New York City, where she worked as a cabaret singer in New York before moving to Los Angeles to try her hand at her own style of comedy, which blended storytelling and music. She appeared regularly in short comedy projects and the occasional episodic television series, most notably guest turns in minor roles on a 2013 episode of "Justified" (FX, 2010-15) directed by John Dahl and "The Mindy Project" (Fox/Hulu, 2012- ). However, Durwood was largely devoted to her stand-up comedy career, which included a one-woman show, "Hi, How Can I Help You?" which debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2010. In 2015, Durwood joined the cast of "Funny Girls" (Oxygen, 2015- ), a reality series that followed the lives of six female comics making their way in Los Angeles. The program led to more substantive roles on "House of Lies" (Showtime, 2012-16) and her own series, "Mary + Jane," with Durwood and Jessica Rothe as enterprising roommates who start their own marijuana delivery service. During this period, she also issued two comedy-oriented music releases: Woman of Whimsy in 2015, and its 2016 follow-up, Take One Thing Off.
