Sylvie De Morais-Nogueira
French-Canadian actress Sylvie de Morais-Nogueira found fame on Quebec television series like "Yamaska" (TVA, 2009- ) before venturing into features like the drama-thriller "On His Mother's Side" (2016). Born in Montreal to Portuguese parents, de Morais-Nogueira found solace from her childhood shyness through performing, and decided to pursue a career as an actor. After graduating from the College Lionel-Groulx in Sainte-Therese, Quebec in 2005, she began appearing in Canadian theater before making her screen debut in "La vie secrète des gens heureux" ("The Secret Life of Happy People," 2006). The following year, she starred in the children's series "Les Kiki Tronic" (Tele-Quebec, 2007) as a naïve but ambitious superhero. A minor role in the Genie-winning drama "Tout est parfait" ("Everything is Perfect," 2008) preceded her breakout showcase in the long-running and popular soap opera "Yamaska," playing young mother Sacha Carpentier. She departed the series in 2010 for a recurring role on the primetime comedy-drama "C.A." (2006-2010) and work in theater. After giving birth to a son, Bertrand, with her husband, actor Christian E. Roy, in 2014, de Morais-Nogueira returned to features in writer-director Dominic Goyer's offbeat and suspenseful "L'Origine des espèces" ("The Origins of the Species"/"On His Mother's Side"). She played the girlfriend of a successful young man (Marc Paquet) who discovers unsettling truths about his father and recently deceased mother.
