It's rare for an actor to skip from one hit sitcom to another. But when Michael J. Fox followed up his seminal 1980s work on "Family Ties" with the 1997-2002 New York-set "Spin City," writer-producer Tom Hertz was there to make the transition as well. Previously, he had worked mainly on variety programs starring Dennis Miller, a pre-"Daily Show" Jon Stewart, and Stephanie Miller. But once Hertz made the transition to fictional TV, he continued on in that direction, most successfully on the return of yet another pint-sized entertainer, David Spade. Since 2007, Hertz has been writing and producing episodes of the comedian's second sitcom hit, "Rules of Engagement." Hertz was an executive story editor on "Spin City." His other credits include "Less Than Perfect," a sitcom co-starring Andy Dick, and the ABC family comedy "Married to the Kellys."
