      Valentine Dyall was a British actor who brought his acting talents to Hollywood films. Early on in his acting career, Dyall landed roles in various films, including the Laurence Olivier adaptation "Henry V" (1944), the Trevor Howard dramatic adaptation "Brief Encounter" (1945) and the romance "I Know Where I'm Going" (1945) with Wendy Hiller. He also appeared in the dramatic adaptation "Caesar and Cleopatra" (1946) with Vivien Leigh and "The Queen of Spades" (1948). His film career continued throughout the fifties and the seventies in productions like the period drama "Ivanhoe" (1953) with Robert Taylor, "Horror Hotel" (1960) and "The Haunting" (1963). He also appeared in "The Wrong Box" (1966) with John Mills and the Spike Milligan comedy "The Great McGonagall" (1974). In the latter half of his career, he tackled roles in the adaptation "The Slipper and the Rose" (1976) with Richard Chamberlain and "Britannia Hospital" (1983) with Leonard Rossiter. He also had a part in the TV miniseries "Peter and Paul" (1980-81). Dyall's distinctive voice can be heard on "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" (PBS, 1982-83). Dyall last worked on "Agatha Christie's Miss Marple, Series I" (PBS, 1985). Dyall passed away in June 1985 at the age of 77.
