Moira MacDonald Seattle Times Emerges as a quiet tribute to a usually ignored species, gently reminding us, in one keeper's words, that "Bees work together for the common good." Audience Member The movie was an exquisite piece of art. Beautiful cinematography, unbiased treatment of the subjects and an interesting foray into the culture and business of beekeepers. It was refreshing to watch a documentary that didn't force-feed me an opinion. If you're looking for a hard-hitting documentary that will get you pissed-off and riled-up, this isn't it. Colony is more of a slice-of-life. All of the people it follows are fascinating interview subjects, but the main beekeeping family documented truly makes the film what it is - beautiful, poignant and honest. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member We have to save the bees. Not only for our own survival but also because they're pretty cute when they don't sting you. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member unbeelievable! :P couldn't help it, but this is a very intriguing account of a strange unknown reduction in bees which began not very long ago... what's more interesting is the life and purpose and social instinct of the bee... i guess, life is so resilient but altogether fragile that the slightest change could have a lasting impact on it. is this life or is this death? pray for the bees! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member An insightful and balanced documentary about Colony Collapse Disorder. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Producing a documentary about the Colony Collapse Disorder is an important but near-impossible job: Suspense around apiculture!? Problem solved by providing portraits of bee keepers including the colony-like Christian Seppi family complete with queen-like dominant mother and worker sons. Fascinating story that needs to reach many people in times like these when more and more seem to think, like one bee keeper says, that food comes from the store. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member The subject of Colony, colony collapse disorder in honey bees, is very compelling. I was very interested in the subject, and the first 20 minutes or so of this film gave me what I wanted. It was edited well, there was plenty of information given, and the people were pretty interesting. Then the filmmakers forgot that they were supposed to edit the damn thing. Once the 20 minute mark passed, it seemed like the filmmakers just kind of lost interest and started cutting together long, eventless moments in order to reach a feature length. This could be a truly excellent short film, but the people behind this camera didn't manage to make a compelling feature film. At only 87 minutes, this film felt like several hours of dull.
