Audience Member Drink, drink!!!! feel the hell he felt on calvary. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Manic Britsploitation classic with garish 70's style and a menacing performance from the always intense Patrick Magee. Kills are tame, but well constructed and the story ain't bad either. All in all, a decent proto-slasher. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Jings. Years before he lycra-ed up and rode really fast on his bike, becoming a Sports Non-Personality of the Year in the process, Bradley Wiggins dinged his dongs at night by donning a shiny boots and helmet combo and strutting about as a security guard. During the day he was a swimming instructor. Both these jobs gave him ample opportunity to engage in his hobby of bumping off sinful young women whom he suspected were trying to induce him to do rude things with them. You see, Brad lived/had a weird oedipal type relationship with his mum and they both lived above the chapel of the fanatical religious sect they belonged to. This is a pretty far-out horror film, really gruesome in places (and this is the cut version), with elements of the sexploitation genre and a cameo by David Hunter out of 'Crossroads' thrown in. And it ends with a crucifixion... I really liked it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Patrick Magee is the actor Samuel Beckett wrote KRAPPS LAST TAPE for which is a shameful bit of trivia you can chew upon while watching this stinkfest. Unable to make up its mind if it is a psychological expose on the evils of fundamentalism or a scary serial killer movie that exposes the wackadoodle Xianity cult that encourages deadly baptisms - THE FIEND (a/k/a BEWARE MY BRETHREN) makes many many mistakes. Most of which have to do with the strange confessionals of Mommy Birdy who is a closeted insulin junkie. Meanwhile, security guard pool manager sonny Kenneth is jack booted to the knees and playing with tape loops in the cellar. Then there is that whole silly preaching stuff that Magee has to do with a straight face. Meanwhile, the whole congregation of street scum and library periodical room regulars all burst into disco hymns complete with wah wah effects and a funky drummer. The ONLY thing that works in this movie are the clever juxtapositions, of which there are several, each one successful. And for those, I guess, you might want to check this out. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member With its fantastic gospel soundtrack, cool late 60s / early 70s setting and fast pace, The Fiend is an unashamedly warped psychodrama with a stalwart British cast which includes the always underrated Patrick Magee and Ann Todd. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member this was just weird - weird bloke living with his mum- both belong to religious cult and during the services he goes around killing prostitutes and topless sunbathers - everyone needs a hobby. Sadly too much time taken up by where nothing of note is happening and the lack of police presence on screen when there is a serial killer on the loose is alarming. Just a little too weird for me i'm afraid Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
