Alec C Horror has never been more grotesque and tragic! Seth Brundle creates the first functional teleporter, only for himself to become his most terrifying creation as he slowly mutates with a fly's DNA to become a monster that defies the imagination. A doomed romance at the center of this sci-fi fright, this film is both a body horror flick with an emotional core making it one of the most memorable movies of all time! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/02/24 Full Review Laszlo T An absolute masterpiece! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/07/24 Full Review Johan J 99% Amazingly enough, The Fly refuses to accept a role as a typical horror B-movie like the original 1958 version did. Instead, it becomes a poignant tragedy with career-best performances from the two leads, while still packing a hefty, gross punch using director David Cronenberg's signature body horror (those special effects are some of the best in all of cinema). Cronenberg makes plenty of smart decisions with this remake, such as making the transformation from man to insectoid gradual and grotesque instead of unsuspensfully instant and having the audience sympathize with the characters to add emotional weight. Most importantly, he cast Jeff Goldblum as the ultimate lovable nerd, and his pained performance makes the film sad and unforgettable. The Fly is the movie that made me love movies, and with the near flawlessness of this movie, it only makes sense. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Barney C My all time favourite horror movie! While a little slowpaced, the horrific transformation of Seth gotta be one of the most bone chilling and stomach turning things I've ever seen, the makeup and practical effects are BREATHTAKING AND STUNNING, definitely some of the best practical effects in horror films ever. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/24 Full Review Arthur B I found it more funny than horrifying, the plot is pretty thin, at the beginning it felt like I was watching a film that was thirty minutes in but although I am not a fan of Goldblum's acting, the fly manages to easily overcome it's flaws with a good script and excellent practical effects. Jay Scott Globe and Mail The Fly is a mass-market, horror film masterpeice that is also a work of art. Dec 6, 2022 Full Review Patrick Goldstein Los Angeles Times What makes The Fly such a stunning piece of obsessive film making is the way Cronenberg deftly allows us to identify with his monstrous creation. Aug 4, 2013 Full Review Carrie Rickey Philadelphia Inquirer Wildly imaginative, gut-wrenchingly scarifying and profoundly primal (not to mention funny), David Cronenberg's The Fly is a movie that whacks you in the solar plexus and leaves you gasping.
