Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times "100 Days" may echo dozens of formulaic American romantic comedies - "Sweet Home Alabama" instantly comes to mind - but still manages its own distinct brand of sweetness and light. Dec 12, 2014 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member I wasn't sure what to expect, a comedy, a romance, a drama but oh wow did I get so much more from this film than those things. It's simply put one of the most amazing films I've seen in relation to romance. There's so much detail to every character and such a vivid and lively world it's truly awesome. What makes this film great is everything, scenery, characters, storyline, everything blends together masterfully in a very realistic way. I found myself unable to guess what might happen next as the people evolved throughout the film and grew together. Everyone learns something here, even us! I especially loved the way things wrapped up at the end, totally unexpected and beautifully done. Truly a fantastic film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member too silly and unrealistic. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review jesse o Not a half bad movie that benefits from an incredibly likable cast, but one that suffers from generic and uninteresting storytelling, which really drags it down. The movie does have a beautiful setting, so that helps to distract you from some of the film's flaws, but there's clearly problems under the hood. Unfortunately, the film pretty much plays out like every American rom-com movie ever made. That wouldn't be problematic if the characters were intriguing or I was invested in seeing where they were heading, but they're not. The characters are one-dimensional and they bring absolutely nothing to the table. Again, the cast is likable, but there's no denying that the writing isn't exactly great. There were parts of the film that I liked, like how they explore Bo Dan's relationship with his mother, whose death brought him back to his hometown after being gone for 15 years. Those are the only moments where the film really does feel like it has something to say and, sadly, there are not many of these moments in the film. This focuses more on the romantic elements of the story as opposed to Bo Dan's relationship with his mother and the tradition that he has to get married within 100 days for his mother's spirit to safely pass to the 'other side'. That was also pretty interesting and it would've been cool to see a more Taiwanese touch to the film, instead of it being so Americanized to the point that this really lacks its own identity. It's not like Big Man Japan, which is uniquely Japanese and there's nothing like it out there. It's not that this movie needed to be as nuts as Big Man Japan, but there's nothing here that feels uniquely Taiwanese. It's all borrowed from other sources. I'm not even sure that this makes sense, but it makes sense in my head. I know the cast is solid and everything, but it takes more than a good cast to make a good movie. Don't get me wrong, the cast helps a whole hell of a lot, but you also need a strong script to put something on screen that's worth watching. And the cast in this film isn't even that great to begin with. They're fine and likable, but it's not like this is the cast of Little Miss Sunshine here. The third act of the film is fairly sentimental, who's fucking surprised about that? This is watchable, at best, but there's nothing to this movie. It's shallow and, honestly, lifeless. I'm sure there's an audience for this film, as there is for almost every film in existence, but I just can't see myself recommending this at all. You can certainly do worse, but it's not good. I wouldn't say avoid this like the plague, but you wouldn't be missing out on anything if you skipped this. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved, loved, loved this film! Beautiful setting, good cast and great directing. I really enjoyed the story, felt a connection to the characters and even learnt something about old traditions. My husband, who doesn't like romantic comedies enjoyed it as well. Would highly recommend! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Endearing romantic comedy with characters you cheer on and remember long after watching the movie. Highly recommend this film!
