CodyZamboni Z Jul 11 Too many dull moments, An okay leading guy and girl, Campy, silly villains, Lots of fuzzy, large scale crowd disaster scenes, Which seemed shoehorned in from other movies, Some cool looking old school fx, Alot of real tacky fx, As Greek dude leads rebellion of slaves againt corrupt Atlantis rulers bent on conquering the world, and turn everyone into man beasts, aka Dr Moreau style, See more Vítor Pimentel de Oliveira V Mar 14 An american "sword-and-sandals" with decent plot and acting and, for a low budget flick, decent production values. Still doesn't hold a recommendation when in comparison with similar movies from that age, such as Colossus of Rhodes, released in America just 1 month later. See more Russ G 10/18/2022 Not that bad a piece of movie making for six decades ago coming out of a Poverty Row studio called "Galaxy Productions;" it was good enough to be released through MGM. I give it 2.5 Stars out of five mostly for effort; I have no idea how low the budget was for this but the producers must have done a lot with a little. No doubt this was fodder for Saturday afternoon matinees or drive-in fare to light up the screen while the paying customers found other ... er... amusement! One hidden gem here: the high priest later got promoted to Chief of Control in "Get Smart!" See more Allie T 10/15/2022 Everyone is much to harsh on this movie. George Pal who gave us the War of the Worlds was a genius. I saw it in the 60s at 12 years old and even today, it revives my memories of a Hollywood that strove to entertain and not put out the narrative that we have today. Just where do you thing Lucas and Spielburg received their inspiration! See more dave s 07/26/2022 The cinematography is actually pretty decent and that Metrocolor really makes the colors pop, but, other than that, Atlantis, the Lost Continent doesn't have much to offer. A princess, who tends to be a bit moody and more than a little manipulative, is inexplicably found floating on a raft in the Atlantic and is rescued by a Greek fisherman. Tricked into returning her to Atlantis, he finds himself to be a slave of the state, simultaneously falling in and out of love with the irritating princess numerous times, and forced to fight for his freedom in a ‘fire and water' challenge worthy of Survivor. It all sounds very exciting, but it's not. The dialogue is horrible, as is the acting, and the story is absurd. To top it all off, the special effects are brutal, including the (SPOILER ALERT!!!) inevitable sinking of Atlantis. See more Brenda L 04/18/2020 This movie is a cult movie. I saw this movie when I was 10 yrs old and have never forgotten it. George Pal the director was a genius. The set decor and the music have been lodged in my brain since then. It has all the essential elements to be engrossing movie, a romance, a princess and her handsome rescuer. It has the evil kingdom and a fight of "fire and water". A scary section of turning humans into animals and a happy ending. What more could you want? It will always be one of my favorites! See more Read all reviews
