Allan C Disappointing Hammer barbarian queen flick She (1965) ** I’d never seen this film before and was kind of excited to see Ursula Andress (DR. NO) as a warrior queen of a lost city discovered by Peter Cushing and his team of adventurers, and I loved the title to the sequel, THE VENGEANCE OF SHE, but this Hammer production of the H. Rider Haggard story was a serious disappointment. It was slow, clunky, and way too talky. Don’t get me wrong. I wasn’t expecting CONAN THE BARBARIAN levels of action, but I was expecting something a little more exciting along the lines of a Tarzan movie or an H.G. Wells adventure story. Cushing delivers all the dull exposition, but Christopher Lee gets to ham it up as a high priest of sorts. Between Andress and Lee, the film did hold my attention for the most part, but it’s certainly not one I plan on revisiting.  AI CAPSUL REVIEW: She (1965) promised adventure with Ursula Andress as a lost-city queen and Peter Cushing leading the expedition, but it’s a slow, talky disappointment. Despite Andress’s presence and Christopher Lee’s flair, the film lacks the excitement or energy of classic Hammer or pulp adventures. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/12/25 Full Review Audience Member A classic adventure movie that thrives from its high class actors and feel. Though it can drag on at some points, I cannot help but be fascinated by the story and the interactions of the characters... let's call it a hidden gem! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member not as good as 1935 version but still a good watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member A rather weak film which is worth a cult status. This tale could be told from nearly any viewpoint, and is relate-able to a child's intellect. The one character which I'd want to see more of is Ustane, played by Rosenda Monteros. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member A middling production from Hammer, that whilst it has all the potential to be an epic adventure. Sadly it never really engages with its audience, today its a little slow and could have been so much more than what is presented. Sadly it wastes its topnotch cast, Andress, Cushing, Cribbins and Lee. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member A welcome change for this Tarzan director, Ursula Andress is perfect for this character study in antiquity, and her only interesting starring role. With great acting support from John Richardson (Leo) and Rosenda Monteros (Ustane), the heavy handed British cohorts can be overlooked. Great filming from 1965. I recently acquired this film and its a repeater. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews
