Pat Padua Spectrum Culture A curious hybrid of hagiography and horror movie. Rated: 1.75/5 Aug 31, 2018 Full Review Christine N. Ziemba Paste Magazine Bly's life is an intrinsically compelling one, and the failure of 10 Days in a Madhouse is that it never once lives up to the indelible nature of the life it portrays. Audience Member I went with 3 1/2 stars for this movie, I was just going to give it 3 stars but I went with 3 1/2 stars because I would most likely reccomend this movie to others. I only seen it once, I'd watch it again but it is a really hard watch. I liked this movie, yes not that many well known actors and kinda low budget. I cried at the end of this movie, I also liked the movie about Nellie Bly that had Christina Ricci in it. I love that Nellie Bly fought to expose the injustice, She inspires me and I myself try to fight the good fight. This movie shows that mental health was not handeled well etc... Even today hospitals of the mental and medical can be unjust to patients. It has gotten somewhat better since Nellie Bly's time, but horors still happen within hospital walls it is really quite sad. Anyways... I went with 3 1/2 stars for this movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Bad CGI, bad acting, bad German accents...and Kelly LeBrock on screen for like 2 minutes. All of the ladies asylum costumes have these strange yellow "stains" on them which I think is supposed to be sweat stains? I'm pretty as ure the lead actress wears a cheap shake n' go wig the entire movie. The way the story is told makes the viewer think weeks, months have passed but as the title states, it's only been 10 days. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Despite the incredibly compelling source material and the best efforts of a very charming and competent lead actress (Caroline Barry), this film just isn't very good. Nellie Bly was an investigative reporter in the late 19th century who reported on the cruelty and degradation toward inmates at Blackwell's Island Insane Asylum. She was brave and intelligent and made a real difference in the treatment of the mentally ill. Unfortunately, this film does not live up to her legacy. It's as if the director ran off with most of the $12 million, leaving only the budget of a student film. Green screens poorly and ridiculously used; horrible stilted, awkward acting; amateur camera angles and camera cuts so quick during ordinary conversations as to induce nausea. There are a few compelling scenes and the overall concept made the film just watchable. Caroline Barry deserves praise for her performance, as I probably would have turned the film off after 10 minutes if not for her. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member This was a high school play! Just Really Awful. From the acting, outfits, wigs and camara angles. Horrible. Such a beautiful True Story. Can We please make a real movie about this woman? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/10/19 Full Review Audience Member 10 DAYS IN A MADHOUSE is in the great tradition of Z-Movies. Its incompetence is matched only by the passion of its makers, people who clearly have no resources and no eye for filmmaking. However, that disparity between talent and ambition creates an aesthetic that is completely unique and oddly beautiful. I have to admit, as well, that the script is pretty solid, and allows a handful of impressive performances to shine through. Oh, and the title track, "Nellie Bly" by Paul Ellis is a.......fiercely educational gem. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member "10 Days In A Madhouse" is a very in-depth look at the social problems that are absolutely universal for each era throughout the world. Bravo! Nellie Bly is played by a very good actress who carried the film like Matt Damon does "The Martian". Bravo! And bravo to the actress playing Nurse Grupe in the asylum - Wow! She was amazingly subtle and deep! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Read all reviews
