Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Yet another weak imitation of the leegndary Casablanca, with Bogart (who also produced) playing a similar part to Rick. Rated: B- Aug 8, 2011 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews A well-acted but predictable spy thriller set in Damascus, in 1925, when the Syrian insurgents conduct guerrilla warfare against their French occupiers. Ainda assim, a tentativa de recriar a dinmica de Casablanca falha visivelmente. Steve D It is hard to care about any of it. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty obvious but weak-sauce attempt at aping 'Casablanca', with Bogart playing a less likable version of his character from that classic film. Marta Toren is also no Ingrid Bergman -- she makes for a pretty but vapid leading lady. The 1920s Damascus setting is interesting, and makes for a visually appealing picture at times, but 'Sirocco' ultimately fails to impress much. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review John K You must remember this: Casablanca is Casablanca and Sirocco is... well just a tired rip-off. I got bored with it and left the room at around the part where Bogie is enlisted to try to rescue the hopelessly idealistic Feroud. Well, I suppose that in the era before sequels, there was still a Hollywoodian impulse to capitalize on the success of a previous blockbuster. But you do run the risk of ending up with a real turkey, aka Sirocco. Too many trenchcoats spoil the film noir! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/26/14 Full Review Audience Member If you're not out of Damascus in twelve hours you'll be shot! In 1925 Damascus, Harry Smith is a gun smuggler taking advantage of the locals fending off the French militia. He meets a French Colonel and the Colonel's girl in a local cantina. The colonel wants Smith to set up a meeting with his weapons supplier. Harry uses this as a chance to steal the Colonel's girl and make some loot behind his back. "I made a monkey out of you." Curtis Bernhardt, director of Possessed, A Stolen Life, Miss Saddie Thompson, Interrupted Melody, High Wall, and Million Dollar Baby, delivers Sirocco. The storyline for this picture was interesting but not outstanding. The characters were fun but kind of cheesy and the script was fairly mediocre. The cast delivers solid performances and includes Humphrey Bogart, Lee Cobb, Everett Sloane, Gerald Mohr, and Zero Mostel. "It's a pity you can only die once." I randomly came across this movie and DVR'd it off a local channel. I was entertained by this picture, but it is far from one of my favorite Bogart movies. He was more of a light hearted character than he generally is, but it wasn't as well written as We're No Angels. Overall, I recommend seeing this if you're a Bogart fan, but I wouldn't go too far out of my way to watch this. "We don't want them going away soft headed." Grade: C+ Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Not the best Bogart. But it's still Bogart. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member don't compare this to casablanca and then you won't be in for a let down, but if you're a bogie fan it's a decent watch and there are elements that stand on it's on, but again... casablanca it is not so don't measure it against it. there's only ONE casablanca Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
