Audience Member The acting makes up for the crude directing style. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Frank Langella, Blythe Danner, & Lee Grant are wonderful in this TV adaptation of Chekhov's play. I loved it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Draggy staging lends a heavy air to already weighty play. Decent enough performances from the leads, who are a little too old for their parts, but the acting honors go to Lee Grant for a sharp portrait of a shallow, somewhat oblivious woman. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Despite the cast this was not a very good performance of Chekhov's play. I was somewhat disappointed in this 1975 production. Seemed to be quite a bit of over-acting here. It's hard to bring theater to the screen because emotions and even movements for the stage are much larger and exaggerated than when you are bringing it to film and that was not taken for account here. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member very, very good. great performances. especially kevin mccarthy. he made the character so interesting. i really loved frank langella in the first half.. but later he over-acted quite a bit. his more subtle moments were very good though. the other performances were also great. the camera work was horrible, hahahhaha. probably the worst quality of anything i've seen. but. the acting was really superb! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Excellent performances, but some of the absolute worst camera work I've ever seen. Should have been left on the stage. Mark Bourne DVDJournal.com Meanwhile, passions are declared, universal angst shared, the alienation of everyday life revealed, the power of a creative spirit meditated upon, and lives destroyed. Sure, it's a comedy. Apr 8, 2006 Full Review Read all reviews
