With 1968: Tunnel Rats, Boll continues to show himself to be an unusually versatile filmmaker -- outrageously awful in any genre. Go to Full Review

very good -- and that's amazing, considering who's receiving said accolade. Go to Full Review

Mar•Garet W @MelFanClub 1d The small amount of scenes with VICTOR CHARLIE in the Tunnels is good enough, but all the scenes with the US Army Infantrymen is the better part of Dogshyte. Everything feels wrong, un-researched, un-rehearsed & uninspired. Just go watch PLATOON (c. 1986) again, after watching some of the 'Making Of' Featurettes. TUNNEL RATS (What an inspired Title) is tantamount to Bat Guano. See more Tom R Dec 1 I am not sure who this director talked to & researched this movie, but it is all wrong. Yes, there are some action that is somewhat true to Vietnam firefights, but there is so much that is not true to form. Having said that, the other part is,...I was there. When I first started watching the movie, on of the things I noticed is that the uniforms are all wrong. He has these Army infantry wearing fatigues that have epaulets. Seriously ??? Neither stateside work uniforms nor Army jungle fatigues have epaulets. Some soldiers have standard Army issue leather boots, and some have the jungle boots we wore. EXCEPT, their jungle boots just don't look right. Some have an almost yellowish, tan look. In addition, the material looks cheap. They were supposed to be at a mountain top or mountain area encampment in which there were jeeps that went to the camp on jungle trails. If there were those types of camps, I never saw them. May be, but I have my doubts. Some of the combat scenes were true to life, but most were just amateur film exaggeration. I cannot comment on what happened in the tunnels, since I did not go in them. Take the tunnel scenes for what they are worth. As I understand it, there was no script, and the actors made up their dialogue & adlibbed as the scene went along. Thing is, it is obvious most, if not all of those actors have never served in combat nor have been in the military. Their dialogue gives them away. All of their combat & dialogue has been what they have seen in the movies. If you want to watch a movie that will bore you to tears, watch this one. It's not worth the 1st minute of film. The intro follows a single helicopter which would not fly solo except in rare circumstances and then when he lands 3 random jeeps show up to pick guys up. Like they'd just have roads and jeeps in the middle of the jungle. Then the guys boxing with no uniform on. I mean what a freaking joke this is. See more roger r 09/20/2024 There are some incredibly fine Vietnam movies, and IMHO this is one of the very, very best. I cannot understand why it bombed at the box office - unless it was too real and it made us think about things that we do not want to be forced to think about. Oh, what a waste of fine young lives. John Wayne would have been enraged over this movie. See more Curran D 09/16/2023 Really geat film that will keep you on your toes. Shows both sides of the war. See more Read all reviews
