      Critics Consensus

Bigga Than Ben is offensive and maybe slightly misogynistic, but still a provocative and crass slice of immigrant life in London.

pave j This arrived on Amazon Prime US. I had seen it when it came out but watched again. This is so un-PC they would never get away with it now, but makes it all the better as far as I'm concerned. Two draft dodgers come to London to rip it off and write a guide about their exploits. Ben Barnes and Andrei Chadov are both brilliant and have great on-screen chemistry. Very funny, quirky and charming. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A funny, but sad, film about the immigrant life in modern day Britain. Thank God for my big sister. I would never have survived without her. Thank you Dori. xxxx Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Warm hearted and un-PC. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member what a strange film! i watched this today on iplayer... and did not know what to expect at all. basically, two russian fellows come over to london so that they can defile the system and take whatever they can. they're racist, greedy and not very nice. in fact there were a lot of racist undetones in this one? avoid this one; should be easy. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member An interesting film, entertaining throughout. It starts to run of out steam after 50 mins but there isn't long left after that. Some of the narration and dialogue is difficult to understand, and some of the onscreen graphics and cutaways are too distracting & unnecessary. However, the films biggest strength is the performance of the 2 leads, with Ben barnes in particular deserving of much praise. Even though the 2 guys are petty criminals, you can't help but wish them success Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Very funnt and reminded me of everything is all illuminated. Barnes best role to date!!!! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard Bigga Than Ben is small-scale, episodic and not without its sins of omission. But it looks as if it speaks the truth and is considerably more entertaining and thought-provoking than most of the week's other offerings. Rated: 3/5 Oct 10, 2008 Full Review Tim Robey Daily Telegraph (UK) Still, it's an enterprising little movie in its location shooting, and I warmed to it - an overeagerness to entertain is hardly the worst crime. Oct 10, 2008 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian Relentlessly crass, smug, charmless and unedifying. Rated: 1/5 Oct 10, 2008 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall This lively comedy feels like about half a movie, as the inventive Borat-like hilarity runs out of steam after about an hour Rated: 3/5 Oct 10, 2008 Full Review Chris Hicks Total Film It tails off into a confusing ending, but Bigga Than Ben is still honest, funny and provocative enough to wind up Daily Mail and Guardian readers alike. Rated: 3/5 Oct 10, 2008 Full Review Tim Evans Sky Cinema Where she's less sure is the disintegration of the friendship between Spiker and Cobakka. It's less than convincing and strangely unaffecting because - to be brutally honest - they're both a pair of neo-Nazi gits. Rated: 2/5 Oct 10, 2008 Full Review Read all reviews
