Critics Consensus

Angelina Jolie gives it her all in the title role, and her seasoned performance is almost enough to save Salt from its predictable and ludicrous plot.

Ange Anderson Bitch Media Director Phillip Noyce... keeps things moving with an engaging lead, well-timed action sequences, smart dialogue and characters whose motivations are well defined. Dec 30, 2020 Full Review Caryn James Newsday In the great tradition of summer popcorn hits, Angelina Jolie's action-spy thriller Salt is stupid but fun. Feb 7, 2018 Full Review Dwight Brown National Newspaper Publishers Association Though the film and the script may have flaws, Jolie has none. Dec 27, 2010 Full Review Nick Rogers Midwest Film Journal It's amazing that for a film with three distinct edits, not one of them blends the best of each into one solid, recommendable version. (FWIW: The director's cut comes closest.) But "Salt" is still a reminder of Angelina Jolie's inimitable movie-star pull. Rated: 2.5/5 Jun 25, 2025 Full Review Malinda Lo Malinda Lo I'm not saying that the movie is the best thing ever made for women... But I'll accept that, as a step toward evening the field for women in Hollywood. May 6, 2024 Full Review Ezequiel Boetti EscribiendoCine Salt is to action movies what the Twilight trilogy and its sexual, anti-hemoglobin puritanism is to vampire stories. This ideological vehicle also has... a trite and well-known story, but narrated with solvency and agility. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 6/10 Oct 3, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member If you’re bored this movie is quite entertaining but both the story it self and Angelina’s Russian accent is all over the place Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review Bruno V Prefiro não comentar para não ridicularizar. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/13/25 Full Review Oliver R Maybe this was more original in 2010, but in 2025 the "nobody is who they seem" theme (i.e. nearly everyone is a Russian pretending to be American) is tired in my opinion. Twists can be used well in stories, but when they are practically the only plot device, they lead to more dissatisfaction or confusion than interest in the story, in my opinion. You don't really know who to root for in this movie, at least not for most of it, and the big reveal at the end doesn't really make up for all the time wasted watching it. Also, the acting isn't great (bad moments stand out more than good moments) and the action sequences seem very unbelievable (I know it's fiction, but having a lady with such a small frame jump-climbing down an elevator shaft like she's Captain America is just silly, and immediately makes the whole thing worse). Perhaps one person will see this review, and 1 or 2 hours of that person's time will be saved. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/08/25 Full Review Frankie B I gave it a 4 only bcs the ending was badly written , when the president was an eye witness to who shot everyone and knocked him out , her alibi for a witness to who really did it , made no sense ! Other then that it was a great movie Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/06/25 Full Review R W It was certainly suspenseful but to ridiculous level. They could have toned down the ridiculous actions and spent some more time in writing the end. The Russian diplomat was saved and the attack on Russia was stopped. However, the continued redundant violence was extremely overdone.
