Noel Murray Los Angeles Times The story's too elementary, but a strong lead performance and clever staging make "2036" something committed genre fans might appreciate. Jun 7, 2018 Full Review Jason Best Movie Talk British visual effects expert turned director Hasraf Dulull makes the most of his limited resources, while Sackhoff's sterling, largely solo performance holds our attention to the end. Rated: 3/5 Jan 31, 2019 Full Review Alan Boon Starburst Aside from a slightly jarring clash between the almost-too-clinical space-bound model work and the interior shots of Sackhoff at work, there is little to dislike here, and a fair amount to enjoy. Rated: 6/10 Aug 15, 2018 Full Review Becky Kukla Film Inquiry It doesn't just make overt references to 2001, it seems to copy and paste signature motifs, themes and symbols. Kubrick's sci-fi epic is not a film that many directors would want their work held up against and 2036 doesn't hold up well at all. Aug 14, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Joseph A The only redeeming quality is Katee Sackhoff. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/10/24 Full Review P G There is one women working in a secret, hi-tech underground bunker, there is an A.I. with an attitude and a face/fist, there is the mysterious lost mission to Mars. Is the A.I. artificial or alien? Did it invent itself? Did it discover, cover-up, or is it related to the mysterious object on Mars? What's with the creepy, overbearing, all-business sister? Why with all of this advanced technology, including instantaneous communication to Mars, can't they have a clear video call? Sound confusing? That's because it is. This is one of those movies where the big reveal at the end is supposed to be profound, which it somewhat is, but it makes the rest of the story not make any sense at all. This movie has been compared to "2001: A Space Odyssey" because it is very derivative of 2001. The difference is that 2001, although a little weird at the end, was based on a solid ground-breaking novel by the great Arthur C. Clarke, and this movie is not. It shows. ~ PG February 2019 Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/04/24 Full Review Hall O Strong performance by Katie Sackhoff. The movie is, essentially, a theatre play, all taking place within a mission control lab. One can then forgive the pretty lousy CGI: it is not the point. The movie grapples with the tension between humanity and A.I., and is, in many ways, remarkably forward looking. The "alien influence" is rather superfluous: the story would have been better, dropping it. Much remains unresolved, so after a somewhat surprising twist ( and it is a good one ), it all dissolves into some philosophical babble at the end, which is meant to sound deep, but is pretty vacuous. So, good promise of a story, and I don't mind the cheap production, but it could have been thought through better. It leaves a bit of an empty feeling in the end. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/02/24 Full Review Stan S 2036 Origin Unknown: A cinematic journey where the plot limps along like a three-legged tortoise in a marathon, the acting is so wooden you could build a shed with it, and the special effects are reminiscent of a low-budget 1980s school project. It's like someone watched '2001: A Space Odyssey', thought 'I can do that cheaper and worse', and, well, succeeded. This film is an unforgettable experience, mainly because you'll spend 90 minutes, knowing you'll ever get that time back. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/24 Full Review Charles S They really seemed to go with the first take every time no matter how it turned out. A lot of pitchiness and rolled words out of the main actress and most of the side characters were ESL just doing their best to just say their lines make this basically unwatchable for me. The special effects and robot voice actor were great, but with a plot cobbled together from classic sci fi films but dialogue lacking all of their depth nothing really redeems this. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/04/23 Full Review tudor d I made an RT account specifically to leave this review. One of the most underrated Sci-Fi movies, right up there with Oxygen and Moon. Sackhoff delivers a performance that i could only describe as "keeps you glued even when the plot is iffy". The story is not roiginal by any means, but the story telling is. I would go so far as to compare Katee to Sir Patrick Steward in TNG, "A talent way beyond the production" Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
