Mark B It is a good concept but the reveal is completed too early and failed to ramp up the tension only to get repetitive . Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/20/25 Full Review E. C When I first saw this a few years ago, I had no idea it would evoke such a visceral response. Being a lifelong fan of the Horror genre, I've seen a menagerie of vampire films. So, I've come to expect something similar from each one (minus the 'sparkling'). This was not the case for "30 Days of Night." For me, it was completely original. Contextually, these creatures are ancient, carnal sadists whose existential condition demands solidarity among its members. They even hunt in a pack w/an Alpha male, which resonates more with werewolves than vampires. Additionally, these characters are entirely believable. Enduring icy cold isolation & a month without sunlight, the townsfolk embrace their circumstances as a preference to conforming with typical societal customs. In this manner, they parallel the vampires. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/17/25 Full Review Rob H When this movie came out, horror fans loved it! It was a new and different vampire film! Everything about this (for the time) was original. The acting was on point with a fresh storyline. Anyone that denounced this has the mindset of an immature child. This is where Danny Huston got his break. Do yourself a favor and watch it before judging. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/14/25 Full Review TheMovieSearch R 30 Days of Night (2007) is one of those horror films that promises a chillingly original concept — vampires terrorizing an Alaskan town plunged into a month of darkness — but unfortunately never quite delivers the impact it should. The premise alone sets the stage for a terrifying, atmospheric experience, yet the execution feels like another rinse-and-repeat vampire flick that doesn’t take full advantage of its own potential. There’s no denying that the film has a few intense and visually striking moments. The snowy, isolated backdrop adds a haunting tone, and the cinematography does a good job capturing the desolation and fear of being trapped in endless night. However, as the story progresses, it begins to feel more like a series of repetitive attacks than a suspenseful, story-driven survival film. The sense of isolation — which should’ve been the movie’s greatest strength — is overshadowed by the lack of character depth and emotional investment. The screenplay feels scattered, jumping between set pieces without developing much substance. There’s minimal tension beyond the initial setup, and while Josh Hartnett delivers a decent performance, even his character feels underwritten. The film’s pacing doesn’t help either; it drags in moments where it should be ramping up the suspense and rushes through moments that could’ve deepened the story or relationships. What’s most disappointing is how 30 Days of Night seems to miss its opportunity to redefine vampire horror. It could have leaned into psychological terror or the slow-burn dread of isolation, but instead it plays out like a straightforward creature feature — vampires appear, people run, chaos ensues, and then it ends. There’s no real evolution or emotional weight to make it memorable. That’s not to say it’s a bad film. There are flashes of creativity in the direction and a few genuine scares that work. But overall, it just feels like another entry in a long line of ā€œalmost greatā€ horror movies — ones that have the right idea but stumble in execution. For me, 30 Days of Night wasn’t terrible, but it also wasn’t gripping enough to keep my full attention. It’s a watch-once type of movie — decent atmosphere, a few cool moments, but nothing that leaves a lasting bite. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/13/25 Full Review AdriĆ”n S It's interesting watching older movies I once thought were bad when compared to even older ones; now, when compared to the more recent ones, over produces and full of jump scares, these early 2000s movies are not half as bad as I once believed. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/12/25 Full Review Logan M An all time great vampire movie. Ignore the critics who’re just mad that nobody bangs a vamp in this one.
