Dani G I know it's a spoof, parody or whatever, but this was awful. Thankfully Edgar Wright did best later with some budget Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/12/24 Full Review Nick B If Edgar Wright had put this out in 2021, then I'd probably give this a B-. It's cast is average, the writing is a bit messy, the second act drags, the comedy is forced in the third act, etc. But since it was his first and had an extremely low budget, I'll give this film more credit. I'd only recommend you watch this if you have liked every Edgar Wright movie you've seen. GRADE B Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/05/21 Full Review Audience Member [⭐️62%] Was there any surprise that an extremely low budget comedy as Edgar Wright's directorial debut would entertain? There shouldn't be! A Fistful of Fingers is certainly an extremely over-the-top and enjoyable adventure which has a specific tone that only a low budget could create. If this was a big studio film, it would probably would be regarded as a poor film, but as a student film it is a great time for its budget. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Edgar Wright's feature length debut is a crazy spoof of the western genre. He definitely seems to know not only his westerns but also the classic '80s parody movies and, although he might not possess his trademark directorial style yet, his writing is strikingly funny already, be it clever jokes, dumb jokes, gags, references or all of the other weird, unexpected stuff that goes on in this surreal, creative film. The acting is fun and the low budget facilitates the comedy - that's how you do it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member This is Edgar Wrights amateur film which basically started his career. This parodies westerns such as the dollars trilogy, once upon a time in the west among others. I am a massive fan of Wrights directing style and technique and I love this. It may be goofy and cheesy and has elements similar to those of Hot Shots 2. However, this is some hilarious and fresh comedy and feels like monty pythons life of brian. I have been trying to find this for a while and it definitely lived up to my expectations. Some moments that stood out for me were- the middle finger shoot-out (as if they were firing shots), the car driving past and the none/nun shall pass gag. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review simon d I'm a bit freaked out by this. I watched this as I quite like Edgar Wright films and wanted to see what his early stuff was like. The first thing I noticed was a familiar name on the opening credits but thought nothing of it until the kid I went to school with appeared. Then I saw his brother, then I started to recognise the scenery and a few other faces. It turns out I went to school with half of the cast and it was filmed where I grew up. I knew that Hot Fuzz was filmed just down the road from me but I never realised Edgar Wright was a local boy come good. The appearance of all these people I knew didn't really help the film much, for most of it I thought it was poor but, by the end I started to appreciate the humour a bit and thought it had it's Pythonesque moments.
