Audience Member Bittersweet tale of how wretched it is to be alone, how when we're left to our own devices so often we fall so hard. The hubris of depression speaks loudly. You love the main character even though she's consistently doing the wrong thing. I know her feelings because I've felt them myself. In the end she's her own person, but at least now she's letting others be in her life. Hopefully afterwards she can let go of her lies, because no matter how hard she tries, the background noise that is the world around that she so desperately tries to keep away keeps coming back. She can't avoid it, she has to accept it and find joy in it, but she will always be her own person. She will always have to deal with being a little lonely most of the time, because that's what depression is. She digs herself a deep, deep hole, and can only start again once she swallows her pride. Loved this film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member i havent watch it yet Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member This Slovenian film directed by Damjan Kozole premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival 2009 and it was released theatrically in more than 30 countries (in US under the title A Call Girl). It is worth watching this fascinating study of the individual and of the society in which so much has changed in a short time. The story of Aleksandra, a twenty-three-year-old Slovenian who leads a double life (she is a respectable student and a call girl) was not just possible but very probable. Young stars Nina Ivanishin was mesmerizing in her role and simply everything she did was right - acting was on the most powerful level even with the antiheroine role like this. It was exciting to watch her in a movie that seems to value character over plot, and substance over style! Thanks to Nina, the film is a "must see". If you forgot how an elegantly written script that creates real three-dimensional characters delivers - here is your chance to be educated! Damjan Kozole's character study creates a distinctive mood that is hard to get rid off while hauntingly meditating on capitalism and the world's oldest profession. Don't miss this one! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Las historias europeas no necesitan de tanta pomposidad para mostrar un buen drama... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Slovenian Girl (original title: Slovenka, alternate title: A Call Girl) will give you many chills, but it's not a suspense. It just presents the facts. It's not always pretty, it never gets dirty, it has its good sides, some bad too... neutral seems to be the theme. You'll see her origins, her work, her life, all in a quiet voice. Drama will not become action, pain will not be torment. However, being used to Hollywood, you can expect to be gripping your chair a bit, because all the trappings are there, just not that pre-chewed scenario that would lead you to jump out of your seat. I can only pull a few negative points: the colors are a bit off, the camera work very simple, and the story a bit sombre. My guess is it's low budget movie that was able to pull off a great performance. If you don't mind reading subtitles, go for it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member I often enjoy dark movies about this about various aspects of the counterculture. I just could not, excuse the pun, get in bed with the lead character. Flat and annoying, I really did not care about her plight and/or the bad decisions that got her there. Perhaps the story was decent enough that, with a better lead, it could have been a good movie. As is, nothing much to see here folks.
