Josef E G I signed on to view the movie not knowing what to expect. I was so impressed with the story line, but most importantly, I was moved by the character "Antan" and how well actor Alexes Manvelov portrayed just how the character felt with his facial feature that expressed so well, the silent pain the character was feeling. He was relentless in showing the character's pain, his quick decision making, etc., never once feeling like giving up, until he made the move to allow his family to have a better life that he could not give them. Great Acting for all those involved in the making of a great story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/10/24 Full Review Luis M. D Realism is the best thing one could say about this film. There is some tension in the plot but nothing unusual —not the kind you would expect from a hostage taking situation. Even at times the narrative seems more melodramatic than suspenseful. But nothing is particularly offensive either —no excessive violence, no illogical turns. There's a political edge in the story involving an immigrant man in Sweden but fortunately there's no attempt to politicize or manipulate the narrative. Safe to watch although nothing extraordinary. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/02/23 Full Review Sreenivas G I recently viewed the movie "A Day and a Half," and it stands out as one of the best films I've seen lately, serving as a reflection of current-day situations. The movie adeptly portrays the complexities of interpersonal relationships, illustrating how couples often misinterpret each other. The affection a mother provides is irreplaceable by any other form of love and the film beautifully captures a father's deep love and emotional connection with his children. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/18/23 Full Review jwcdood Interesting, tense and realistic flick about a seriously FUBARed marriage — there's a lot of us these days and it really makes ya think. The ending is somewhat anticlimactic, but that's not a bad thing. Glad I watched it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/05/23 Full Review SAYAM SAGAR S Best thought , A man is trying to everything to get back family who has nothing else.. family is very important .... movie realistic.. character displays real and genuine , Arthur character is more impressive.. lucas character is brave , honest and humble ... mother character is impressive also.... In the last , i felt i was crying.. Overall very good movie thats why my review is 5 star out of 5. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/01/23 Full Review Sarah A A good twist on a hostage situation. I really enjoyed the human element in this film. You find yourself routing for the main guy whose in-laws have been racist towards him. Wade Major FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) You think you know where all the moral dividing lines are in this car, but you don't because they keep shifting. Oct 3, 2023 Full Review Daniel Rester Willamette Week [A] banal hostage thriller. Rated: 2/4 Sep 15, 2023 Full Review Juan Pablo Russo EscribiendoCine With an appropriate rhythm that doesn't fall into brusque chase sequences or twists, A Day and A Half distances itself from Hollywood conventions and digs into the complexity of human relationships and motivations behind actions. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 7/10 Sep 12, 2023 Full Review Roger Moore Movie Nation The immigrant subject matter hints at a story with a political edge. And the film’s brevity suggests a taut, quick thriller with steadily rising suspense. But our co-writer director and star doesn’t let things play out that way. Rated: 1.5/4 Sep 8, 2023 Full Review Charles Hartford But Why Tho? A Geek Community A Day and a Half delivers an emotional story that plays with the viewer’s pre-conceived notions of a situation as it draws them into its moving and intricate narrative. Rated: 8/10 Sep 7, 2023 Full Review Brian Costello Common Sense Media But, like so much about A Day and a Half, the story and characters defy expectations, and each revelation to the characters and the story is as satisfying as it is entertaining, showing that action movies really don't have to be so typically mindless.
