Marriage is an interesting thing. I legitimately do not know how to feel about it. Part of me believes that if you can find someone that you're in love with enough to want to spend the rest of your lives with, sharing absolutely everything with each other, then great. That's fantastic. Who am I to deny someone their happiness? But another part of me does not agree with the idea of monogamy. Now, I'm not saying that this means you should go out and cheat on your spouse if you both agree to pursue a monogamous relationship with each other. What I mean by that is the fact that I just don't think humans were built with the capacity to just fall in love with one person for the entirety of their natural lives. That's not to say that it isn't possible, as plenty of couples of have done it. Again, if you enter into a monogamous relationship then completely stick with that and be faithful. I don't know how I got to this point, but those are my thoughts on the concept of marriage. Not saying I won't ever get married myself, maybe I'm just a hopeless romantic at heart, who knows. Anyway, on to this film. As this doesn't have a description, what a surprise, let me provide one for you. Alex and Eva, Spaniards who met each other and fell in love while studying abroad, decided to have their wedding back in England (where they met). Eva is already in England with her friends and part of Alex's mother setting everything up. Alex, along with his father and Eva's father and the entire rest of the family, are still in Barcelona ready to fly to London. This is where the film gets its concept. Basically speaking, everything and everyone seems to be conspiring against Alex and Eva and their wishes to get married. Alex's flight gets delayed. His second flight is diverted to Amsterdam. While in Amsterdam Alex, who is in possession of Eva's wedding dress, accidentally takes someone else's bag. They then plan an exchange with the guy who has the dress. After they get off the taxi with to meet with this person, they find out that the suitcase was left in the cab. They go back to the cab company and then, after finding that they'll be able to get the cab back in three weeks, get into a hash browning eating competition with the owner of the establishment for the suitcase. Then, when they're finally able to go fly to London, they find that, in fact, they still took the wrong suitcase. Admittedly speaking, Eva's side of the story isn't as interesting as Alex's or even the family, who are on a bus driving to the airport that will fly them to London. Eva believes she has an affair with this British bartender who then blackmails her into paying him $10,000 to keep the photos he took of her naked body private. Eva and her friends then sell their belongings, they're still short though. So to make up the change, they get into this cheese rolling competition that will get them 5000 pounds...of cheese. They, obviously, were not aware of this fact before they won the competition. Anyway, it comes out that Eva and the bartender didn't actually sleep together and he was just being a dick. Eva, or her friends, don't hear any of this. The point of this all is that this all just sounds like broad attempts at comedy, which it is, but I have to say that I was legitimately entertained by this movie. I don't know if I would say it's a very good movie. It's a very good good movie, which is something I've said before, and it makes sense to me. The film has fast pace and the cast is tremendous. Perhaps it's because Spaniards are far more quick-witted than their American counterparts, but I just find them to have some really tremendous comedic actors. Their creativity with insults always helps as well, but I was still entertained by the movie. It's not just that the insults are clever. I felt that Eva and Alex, in spite of some sappiness at the end, were good characters. In spite of the fact that they spend the majority of the film apart from one other, I did get a sense that these two characters really were in love with each other. And that, regardless of whatever complications may happen that delay their wedding for several days, they'll all feel that it's worth it once they get to have the wedding. Like I said, the third act deals with the typical make-up after the break-up we've come to expect in these films, but everything prior to that point was so good that I wasn't really even bothered that much by it. I don't know what else I can say. This is just a good and funny rom-com. Not the best, nor is it really original or subversive, but this is an enjoyable movie that I would certainly recommend if you want to spend a fun 90 minutes. Oh and a lot of the comedy is better if you're fluent in spanish, which I am since spanish is my native tongue. Just a word of advice.
