This biographical drama focuses on the fascinating life of Texas billionaire Howard Hughes (Tommy Lee Jones). A Renaissance man, he succeeds in such wildly divergent endeavors as aviation and Hollywood filmmaking. But for all his outward dash and brio, Hughes was privately tormented by demons that got the better of him over time. Toward the end of his life, the once-dashing man becomes a recluse, refusing to cut his hair and nails, and communicating only with his most trusted advisers.

Sander Vanocur Washington Post It is a good deal better than what is on television during these dog days of re-runs and tyouts of shows that the networks would like to add to their schedules in the fall. Sep 26, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Although I like The Aviator a lot better, this one is more clear on performance and the life of Howard Hughes. Also I think Tommy Lee Jones did a much better job than DiCaprio. However, The Aviator is a much better film. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member A fantastic little known biopic, its much better than The Aviator I believe and very underrated. Recommended! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Howard Hughes is deserving of a quality biopic, and this one at least presents clearer observations than "The Aviator." Most notable is Jones's physical transformation, through both performance and make-up. The tone of the filmmaking appropriately compliments the period as well. What brings it down most is the editing - Hughes was so eccentric it's hard to decide what must be left in and what can be omitted. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
