      Critics Consensus

Markedly inferior to its cult classic predecessor in every way, An American Werewolf in Paris is felled by the silver bullets of clumsy storytelling and chintzy special effects.

Justin Daniel D If you watch this movie, expecting it to be like an American werewolf in London, you will be disappointed. It's best to ignore that movie and think of this as its own werewolf movie. This movie is funny, campy, & is 1990s nogastolgoc in every way, especially the music. It takes some ideas from his predecessor while adding new unique ones. It seems sequels can't win If they copy the original too much get faulted for being unoriginal. The biggest downside of this film is the CGI has not aged well over the years I saw this movie originally when I was 12 years old and I loved it, so I may be biased. I also saw it without seeing the first one because I grew up in the '90s, wasn't alive yet for the first one. Because of this - being a young teenager and not being able to compare it to a superior first film. I thought this movie was hilarious, and scary. Some really funny campy scenes like chewing on condoms as chewing gum, and really scary chase scenes, The idea of being locked inside with a pack of werewolves and not knowing it until it is too late when you're being torn to pieces trying to get out the door is frightening. (Blade copied this concept 3 years later and everyone loved that movie.) The film gets hate for the same reasons that it had difficulty getting released to begin with - it tries to incorporate comedy and horror which in the '90s was kind of unheard of. CGI wasn't there yet, (remember matrix 2 in 2002 when they went full CGI neo?) I can't really say any CGI was good in 1997. always use rotten tomatoes but I've never left to review out of laziness. After seeing how poor the reviews were for this, I needed to make a profile. A lot of people didn't like Prometheus the prequel to the alien franchise probably because most were expecting another alien movie and that movie just felt different. I liked that movie because I watched Prometheus not knowing anything about it that it was even connected to aliens. That's why I think it's best to think of this movie as its own movie and not a sequel to American werewolf in London. That movie has a completely different feel to it and is good in its own way. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/10/23 Full Review Tony M An American Werewolf in Paris is a good sequel but I do prefer the original. I first saw this movie at the cinema back in 1997. It's enjoyable, worth a watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/22/23 Full Review lalometalik People take horror movies too seriously. This film has suspense, horror, gore, pent-up sexual tension, and laughs! I think it's a great movie to add to any October horror movie marathon. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/27/22 Full Review Samual T They tried too much to repeat the original An American Werewolf in London and seriously failed. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/02/22 Full Review Jessica J This is the most underrated hilarious movie meant to be a horror movie EVER. It's so bad it's good. The cheesy lines. The solid 90s setting. It's a don't miss for campy movie fans. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/06/22 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
