Based on John le Carré's novel of the same name, "The Night Manager" is a crime drama following the work of former British soldier Jonathan Pine. Hotel night porter Pine is contacted by an intelligence operative who asks for his assistance to spy on international businessman Richard Roper. The entrepreneur is believed to have forged a criminal alliance between the secret arms trade and the intelligence community, prompting the need for surveillance. Pine attempts to infiltrate Roper's inner circle by becoming a felon himself, while keeping his mission a secret from his hotel colleagues and girlfriend.

Critics Consensus

Marking a belated but welcome return for Tom Hiddleston's tortured spy, The Night Manager's second season is a glamorous and haunted continuation that only gets better as it goes.

It hits all the right beats, from knotty departmental drama to basic cable erotica, but it does so without much friction or sense of fun. Go to Full Review

The Night Manager season two is a show of two halves, cleaved by a big twist at the end of the third episode which changes the energy of the series. If you find the first few chapters a little dulled, just wait until that reveal. Go to Full Review

The spy game heats up with Tom Hiddleston and Olivia Colman back in action and a new villain (Diego Calva) to spark political and sexual intrigue. That three-way dance with Hiddleston, Calva and Camila Morrone generates enough sizzle to singe your screen Go to Full Review

…The Night Manager 2 isn’t as bad as everyone warned me, but isn’t a patch on the original…with Hugh Laurie and Olivia Colman seemingly absent from the new venture, there’s something of a yawning gap where two huge stars used to be… Go to Full Review

Albeit repetitive, Tom Hiddleston is a sight for sore eyes in this Prime Video espionage thriller. Go to Full Review

Mal B @EmB1973 1h *Spoilers* - It seemed the perfect show with great pace, fantastic actors and complex characters, until the end of the last episode which fell flat on its face. Tricked again by the empty cargo ploy? Pine and Burr should be ashamed of themselves. Never mind Pine expecting too much of Teddy and the others who just stood around and watched Teddy's failure without stepping in (like that would ever happen IRL). Burr showing her hand too soon also a spectacularly stupid move from a seasoned agent. Deeply dissatisfying ending which spoiled an otherwise perfect show. 4 stars only because loved it until the end. See more Kat S @KatShay 9h Great acting, and each episode held my interest. However, the final episode was just too depressing. I'd be fine with a not-so-happy ending, but this was overkill, literally. Could have balanced out the crushing devastation with just a little more hope, I would think. See more Pascal B @Shakrah 11h A season carried alone by Hugh Laurie. Take him out, and the whole season and plot just collapses. So much that the seasonal twist happens when you think about just giving up watching: quick, lets bring the story back to life (literally). Even Tom Hiddleston, who brought energy and charm 10 years ago acts, looks and feels tired. The script goes through the exact same motions as season 1, a lazy rinse-repeat, even in the "surprises": watch the cups... again, rly? Came for champagne, got a beer. See more Vijayashankara C @Vijayashankara 11h Disappointing story extension, more like bond movie. Does not need season 3. See more James R @Pennsylvania 13h Got engaged in 1st season. 2nd season got too contrived. Too many implausible plot twists. Last episode is a waste of time...all it does is come up with a platform to extend the series. It's like it doesn't know what it wants to be....serious or cartoonish (If I want cartoonish I'll re-watch Money Heist!) They kill off a lot of the sympathetic characters, which sorta just pisses you off instead of piquing your interest for season 3. See more Karen R @Fernsdales 16h Very disappointing. As many reviews have said, the ending is weak. The Night Manager doesn’t achieve any of the things he’s set out to do, the good guys get killed and the bad guys live to fight another day. The coup still goes ahead, the baddie gets a £10m stately home, passage back to the UK, and a reconciliation with his son, the corrupt UK government isn’t brought to account, and literally every single "good guy" gets killed ( apart from the obvious) who lives to film another boring series! 👎 See more Read all reviews
