Yasser Medina Cinefilia 'Ánimas Trujano' is a Mexican film from which I extract nothing more than a heavy boredom and the infinite feeling of fatigue produced by its cadaverous narrative about greed, cultural traditions and class struggle. Audience Member If you are a fan of Mexican cinema or Toshiro MIfune you must see this film. It depicts 1950's Oaxaca village life and specifically the organization of the fiestas. The village leaders pick someone to organize and finance the fiestas and that person is called the "Mayordomo" a respected and coveted position. Mifune plays a ne'er-do-well who strongly covets the position and tries a variety of ways to obtain it including witchcraft. His long suffering wife, Columba Dominguez, supports the family and her husband. Simply great acting and great cinema also featuring Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member The second mexican movie to be nominated to best foreign language, it deserved the nomination and more, one of the best mexican films ever made. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Mifune plays a mexican indian that cheats on his wife, gambles, drinks, and wants to go high in the ranks of his village. A bit dated, but still a solid piece, with Mifune stealing the whole thing, phonetic spanish included. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Read all reviews
