acsdoug D It's got a few laughs, but I've always felt Laurel & Hardy's silent shorts are much funnier than their talkies. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/05/23 Full Review Audience Member I love all Laurel and Hardy comedy shorts and Another Fine Mess is one of their very early films. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member One of my favourites from the boys. You always get great value, especially from the works that they did with James Finlayson, who had that amazingly villainous face and the 'D'oh!' that Matt Groening would immortalize in his character, Homer Simpson. An added great bonus is the blonde siren who made far too few films before dying so young--Thelma Todd. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Mike M You can tell it's not going to be top-flight L&H from the manner in which it packs Finlayson off in a cab in its opening seconds - we have to make do with the visiting Sir Leopold Plumtree, with his ghastly laugh and infinite supply of calling cards - and only with his return, marked by one of the greatest double takes of all time, does the comedy truly perk up: the whole goes somewhere genuinely unexpected in its closing five minutes. Hat damage: Stan falls backwards onto Plumtree's topper. Banana skins: none, although Stan goes over on a loose hall rug, and both he and Ollie have trouble around the mansion's many staircases. By this point, the pair were evidently moving up in the world - even if they remained shaky on their feet. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/14/11 Full Review Read all reviews
