Eric Henderson Slant Magazine The really frustrating thing about Tomatoes is the toothlessness of its satire. Audience Member 5/5 stars definitely reccomend, I really appreciated the reversal of gender norms at the end, where the tall woman carried around the short man like her little pookie. It really spoke to me as a delusional single woman 🩷 Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/25 Full Review The S Not a movie that will ever teach you something about yourself, or your fellow man...not even the best satire film out there. Having just seen this film for the first time today, I can say that I feel as though this is a film you need to go into with zero expectations...it's not meant to be a Mel Brooks-level send up of the mid-20th century era "Attack of the Giant/Killer/Alien ???" films, it's meant to be a clear-eyed (i.e., "we know it's bad but we don't care") reproduction of those films. You need to sit down, acknowledge that the premise is ridiculous, and just GO with it. As a huge fan of the MST3k series, I have seen my share of "bad" monster movies, and this one is just...different. It's not "good", it's not even "so bad it's good"...it's just a movie that is intentionally, truly, and unabashedly low-budget, and therefore "bad" by most modern measures. It was also the first movie in a while that has made me laugh out loud at the straight-faced ridiculousness of it, starting before the opening credits had even ended, (in its own meandering, half-hearted way) all the way through to the final scene. Is the first 30 minutes the funniest it will be? I think so. Is the rest of it still worth watching? Absolutely. It seems a little disingenuous (to me at least) to read reviews of this film where people picked up the movie for the first time when the 25th anniversary edition came out on DVD or (even worse) when the film came out on Blu-Ray 40 years after it was made, and have the nerve to claim the movie is some weird, terrible, unfunny, failed anomaly of a film while ignoring the fact that it spawned three sequels, a kids' cartoon series, three video games, and continues to exist in the collective consciousness today in SOME form. TLDR: Like the original Transformers film by Michael Bay, this is not a film that qualifies as "art"...it's entertainment, pure and simple. Pop some popcorn, leave your expectations at the door, and watch a bad movie about tomatoes eating people. What, like you've got something better to do for 87 minutes? Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/25 Full Review Ron R Best part was the helicopter crash in the beginning of the movie. The rest was really bad. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/21/25 Full Review CodyZamboni Z Movie start off with lots of energy, With a series of Airplane style jokes, gags, musical numbers, Amusing at first, with the amatuerish moviemaking, acting, fx, But wears thin after 45 minutes, and boredom sets in. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/21/25 Full Review Dallas H It's the "naked gun" and "airplane" of the produce aisle. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/25 Full Review The C There is no experience like Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. It is truly a film you have to see to believe. While it is not an amazing film it still fulfills its purpose as a goofy satire. Its funny, witty and just ridiculous. Sometimes its not the ridiculous 70s humor that makes you laugh but instead the craziness of the situation. One moment from this film that is engraved in my brain is the moment when the scuba diver is sent out but just ends up swimming in a fountain which is the last time we see him. I remember thinking "this is stupid but I love it" and for that this film has my respect. This film is truly a product of its time and I would recommend that everyone give it a try. It is the definition of "so bad it's good". Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/12/25 Full Review Read all reviews
