Andy B The third in the Basket Case series sees Dwayne in a straitjacket while Belial waits for Eve to give birth. This film basically follows the birth, Dwayne’s escape and the resultant bloodbath as Belial takes revenge on the local law enforcement community. This is cheap horror and needs to be viewed as such. Basket Case worked due to the relative simplicity of the plot and the naive Dwayne. Here Dwayne is still naive, but there are now more “monsters” around, led by Granny Ruth. You could say that there are messages here about how we treat those in society who do not confirm to norms - but I think that giving the filmmakers more credit than they deserve. The special effects are adequate - certainly better than the stop motion of the original. While they don’t look realistic, there is enough about them that they don’t distract. I’ve certainly seen a lot of films with cheap CGI that do a far worse job. The humour is there throughout. The characters are actually well drawn and the acting isn’t bad. Definitely worth your time, so sit back and open the popcorn. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/08/24 Full Review Robson C Eve, a namorada de Belial, engravidou. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/08/24 Full Review Frisby 2 So I enjoyed the first Basket Case, as cheap as it is, because it thoroughly managed to make use of the concept to full extent. The sequels? Yeah, so whatever cheapness the first one had, only becomes A LOT more evident here, and that's despite how creative and colorful they are. Yes, so despite how evident it is that the sequels got more of a budget to create a variety of whimsical character designs, they managed to look cheaper and worse, and it's especially notable with larger characters. A good chunk of times you can see the unblended latex and seems, obvious mechanics or extra actors within suits, and some of the "skin" begins to split open. It doesn't just stop with the practical makeup and effects, because the writing and acting is just as bad. Characters do the weirdest things for no reason and then aren't mentioned again (the Sheriff's daughter, for example, becomes a dominatrix out of nowhere, and that's never brought back up), and actors play their roles in the most lackluster way. Often times it's obvious they were just told what to say but not how to emote properly too. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/28/23 Full Review steve d They just keep getting dumber and less scary. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Only with the last decade did I discover that this series existed and, well, I'm not really a fan of the films. They are kinda dumb but I find a bit of charm within that. Essentially, I find the films fun to watch because they are so bad that they are good. The bad acting and the bad production makes them uniquely entertaining. However, "Basket Case 3: The Progeny" felt like a really weak ending to the franchise. It has what makes the other films work but when combined with a story that I found boring, it equaled to a very "meh" feature. Hello! My name is Rev.
