      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

It may offer energetic escapism for less demanding filmgoers, but Battleship is too loud, poorly written, and formulaic to justify its expense -- and a lot less fun than its source material.

GuestLord D Just an action movie taking up the name of "battleship" Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review Alejandro B No se por que le fue tan mal me gusto mucho debio tener secuela lastima que nunca la hicieron Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/24 Full Review Mortal Plot-wise is meh! I don't really like the excessive use of CGI and also the acting is nothing to bring home about. If you are into huge computer generated explosions and happy endings with the couple ending up getting married, go ahead and watch it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/29/24 Full Review Michelle H I love this movie. The heroism and story, especially the WW2 vets. Well done. Critics are so disconnected with what the general public likes. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review László H I am surprised that this movie was rated so low. If you know what to expect from a blockbuster, and you can put aside some logical flaws, this movie is an absolute must, filled with adrenaline pumping scenes 🙃 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/25/24 Full Review Parker D Arguably one of the better action films of the 21st century and perhaps one of the most visually stunning and beautiful battleship is a very entertaining movie that has a fun story of scientists detecting extra terrestrial life meanwhile Alex hopper ( Taylor kitsch ) gets in trouble for trying to impress his girlfriend so he is forced another chance to join the navy and they later get the opportunity to prove by trying to save the world from aliens. The action and battle scenes are extorting and visually stunning I loved how they were fighting with battleships and the scene when the aliens send out these machines that go destroy a millitary base hellicopters and a highway, the final battle was also awesome and fun to watch, the acting is really good Taylor kitsch is stellar as the main lead and his charachter is very likeable, Rihana is also great as well it's nice to see her attempting to act and also a really solid supporting performance from one of my favorite actors of all time Liam neeson he looks like he is trying to take the material seriously by acting serious. While the film does have a ridiculous subject only because of it being based on a board game this film is still smarter than you think. The cinematography, and production values are also excellent and the film delivers fun entertainment at its best with stunning visuals and impressive effects and CGI firey explosions which are Michael bay level brilliant and the film itself also feels like a Michael bay film and it's awesome I loved just about every single moment watching it 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥 8.5/10 Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/13/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Ben Sachs Chicago Reader Once the special effects take over, Berg has little room to assert his personality (or tell a story, for that matter), and the movie feels like a chore. May 24, 2012 Full Review Perri Nemiroff Shockya.com Riggins and Landry in the Navy, Peter Berg Does Michael Bay, Transformers-esque, Not Really Battleship; any of those titles are just as fitting if not more so than Battleship. Rated: 2.5 May 19, 2012 Full Review Christopher Orr The Atlantic Battleship is substantially less awful than it could have been. And for me, that may have been the biggest disappointment of all. May 18, 2012 Full Review Iván Kazi EscribiendoCine Everything that you think may happen will happen. But it's the little differences in the process that make the movie enjoyable and its true filmmaking achievement. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 6/10 Jun 14, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review A derivative, nonsensical sci-fi project best described by comparing it to better movies. Rated: 1.5/4 Oct 19, 2022 Full Review Graeme Tuckett Stuff.co.nz Some people will tell you that Battleship is a bad film. And they will be right. But it is still a better film than a lot of other action and effects-dominated movies out there. Especially ones based on toy franchises. Aug 26, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews
