Critics Consensus

It may offer energetic escapism for less demanding filmgoers, but Battleship is too loud, poorly written, and formulaic to justify its expense -- and a lot less fun than its source material.

Once the special effects take over, Berg has little room to assert his personality (or tell a story, for that matter), and the movie feels like a chore. Go to Full Review

Riggins and Landry in the Navy, Peter Berg Does Michael Bay, Transformers-esque, Not Really Battleship; any of those titles are just as fitting if not more so than Battleship. Go to Full Review

Battleship is substantially less awful than it could have been. And for me, that may have been the biggest disappointment of all. Go to Full Review

Everything that you think may happen will happen. But it's the little differences in the process that make the movie enjoyable and its true filmmaking achievement. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

A derivative, nonsensical sci-fi project best described by comparing it to better movies. Go to Full Review

Some people will tell you that Battleship is a bad film. And they will be right. But it is still a better film than a lot of other action and effects-dominated movies out there. Especially ones based on toy franchises. Go to Full Review

Raymond R @CainVirethorn 4d I love movies about aliens invading earth, and while this one was entertaining, it felt extremely rushed all throughout. Like, we don't even know WHO or WHAT the aliens are or what they wanted. All we know is, they showed up and wanted to send a message home. The one thing I will happily give this movie credit for is bringing in real veterans, specifically former crew of the Missouri. It's rare for this to happen and was heartwarming. Action wise, great movie. Story was buns. I will say, Sam was great for eye candy. Love her sexy body, love her short shorts and legs. See more JOHN K @Shampion 4d Very underrated movie… personally I think the movie is a four star, but I’m giving it a five to help up the rating… Definitely much better than the 34% rating it gets from the critics… This movie has lots of action, some good performances … overall… it’s a good action film/movie of good guys versus bad guys. See more Billy C. @bcassini13 Dec 18 Perfect 2010's cheesy action movie. So nostalgic to watch. Brooklyn decker is always great as well See more Chris M Dec 13 Umm, it was a well written and well acted re-adaptation of so many movies like independence day with a touch of armageddon, top gun and the hunt for red October. The movie had a lot of heart, transformers-esque special effects and heart tugging appreciation for our veterans. It has probably aged like a fine wine. I wouldn't mind a modern sequel where they come back and the world retaliates with the best of our modern day abilities including Tom Cruise and Scarlett Johansson...just sayin See more Alexander S @Meatloaf Dec 6 Very fun movie. Worth a watch. See more JM H @JMH9999 Nov 19 Stupid but entertaining. See more Read all reviews
