Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Ulmer manages to offer a compelling shot here and there, and the story contains several intriguing ideas. Rated: 2.5/4 Apr 16, 2022 Full Review Michael E. Grost Classic Film and Television Fascinating sets show the geometric world of the future. Aug 6, 2013 Full Review Christopher Lloyd Sarasota Herald-Tribune A prime example of low-budget mid-century cheese, more valuable now as an artifact of that era than for any supposed entertainment value it might have possessed in 1960. It can only be enjoyed ironically. Rated: 1/5 May 2, 2013 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Rated: 3/5 Aug 3, 2005 Full Review Ken Hanke Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC) Not really good, but such a fascinating no-budgeter that it's mesmerizing. Rated: 3/5 Oct 1, 2003 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews The cardboard sets and flat acting and primitive story line reminded me of the '50s Captain Video TV program I got a kick out of watching as a kid. Simon T Why are so many ultra low budget sci-fi B pictures so slow and boring? This was actually made just eight years before 2001: a Space Odyssey, but you'd think it had been put together in the thirties. Endless static shots of people walking, aliens in bad wigs or mini skirts spouting nonsense at great length in German accents. The 'plot' is some negligible nonsense about time zones and plagues. Good god, it's boring. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/02/23 Full Review Audience Member OK, it's an old B Picture - cheaply made drive-in and Saturday matinee fare. It still sucks infected donkey balls. I'm sure this was in rotation to fill air time on the VHF stations [remember those?] in the Sixties, but it blows chunks. It's not even one of those "it's so bad it's comically entertaining" kind of films. BTW, could the reason so many of the characters were ostensibly deaf-mutes have anything to do with the Screen Actors' Guild setting a higher minimum salary for SPEAKING PARTS? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review dave s Had Rod Serling been foolish enough to hand over the reins of a Twilight Zone episode to Ed Wood Jr., the end result would have probably looked something like Beyond the Time Barrier. Directed by Edgar G. Ulmer, Beyond the Time Barrier tells the unlikely story of Air Force pilot William Allison who, while flying at an absurd altitude at an equally absurd speed, breaks through a time barrier and finds himself in a post-apocalyptic 2024. It's your typical low-budget American International Pictures science fiction fare featuring cheap sets, bad special effects, dopey dialogue and weak performances. On the bright side, there are no actors running around in rubber monster outfits, always a good thing. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review peter m This movie really tried to be a good movie, but it just does not quite get there. The story is a classic time traveller story, pilot accidently goes forward in time, discovers a dying civilisation and tried to go back in order to save it. Unlike many movies of this type the plans do not go the way its expected and there is a good twist at the end. The issue is the acting, which is average at best. Making the female love interest a mute was probably an error as well. If you like sci-fi time travel stories this will be a good watch, if not you may be better off not watching this. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Low-budget scifi has imaginative sets and an intelligent script. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Dull Edgar G. Ulmer ripoff of George Pal's classic film adaptation of H.G. Wells' "The Time Machine." A test pilot returns to earth after testing out an experimental aircraft and finds himself in a future where the world has been destroyed by cosmic radiation. Cheap sets, no stars, dull script (though the basic premiss isn't bad), but director Ulmer does bring some visual flair here and there and that's enough to save the cheap production from being awful.
