Cargo takes a refreshingly character-driven approach to the zombie genre that's further distinguished by its Australian setting and Martin Freeman's terrific lead performance.

Karl Quinn The Age (Australia) Susie Porter, Anthony Hayes and David Gulpilil are among the excellent supporting cast in an uncommonly thoughtful spin on the genre. Jan 5, 2019 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review It's actually very powerful. Aug 28, 2018 Full Review Nick Dent Time Out Cargo's big drawcard is its sheer humanity. There's a lot of tragedy on show here, and you'll have to be made of stern stuff indeed to make it through this outback odyssey without a few tears. An interesting question to be sure, but the film struggles to overcome genre cliches and pacing issues to explore the answer. (ENGLISH) In Cargo, the zombies aren’t really the main focus. The story revolves around a desperate father trying to save his daughter in a world that’s falling apart. Martin Freeman, in the lead role, conveys both the desperation and deep paternal love that make this film more emotional than terrifying. The Australian setting gives it a unique feel, with desolate landscapes that reinforce the sense of isolation and constant danger. Throughout the film, the tension of the protagonist’s countdown is palpable, but there are also moments where the pacing slows down and loses some impact. This isn’t a typical zombie movie. There isn’t much action or intense horror, but Cargo offers something different by focusing on humanity amidst the chaos. It’s not perfect, but it leaves a more reflective impression than most films in the genre, making it a unique experience within zombie cinema.
