Carlo (Aksel Rasmussen) is a retired bricklayer who lives in a nursing home with his wife, Alzheimer patient Viola (Birgitte Federspiel). There, Carlo meets a lonely widow named Ester (Gerda Gilboe), and it's love at first sight. Although they are both in their 80s, Carlo and Ester enter into a sexual relationship, which shocks their friends and families.
