Panos Kotzathanasis Asian Movie Pulse Truth be told, “Casino Raiders” has not aged particularly well, but is still quite fun to watch, especially due to To’s direction as well as Andrew Lau and Anthony Wong’s presence. Rated: 6 Jan 2, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Hong Kong gamblers are targeted by criminals searching for a legendary gambler's lucky piece. Not really a sequel, just another gambling movie; this one tries to loosely connect with the ubiquitous God of Gamblers. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member An early Johnnie To. I think this is the second best film by To at that period (The best is "All about Ah-Long"), and in terms of how much element of later To you can recognize, this is much more than that film. It is the sequel of "Casino Raiders" (1989) directed by Jing Wong, but you can enjoy this very well without watching it. What interests me the most in this picture are the way of using the blue light, which later becomes To's characteristic, and quite stylish editing, which is very much like those Hong Kong new wave films (sudden insert of episodes of the past, effective use of slo-mo, etc). It could depress you to see some main characters die so easily and the villain being such a worthless man to fight with, but some scenes and performances by actors are really really tense and definitely worth to watch. Sub characters, besides the hero played by Andy Lau, are very characteristic, especially the heroin and the sub-villain. Chien-Lien Wu and Anthony Wong do great jobs. Also, the little girl who plays the daughter of the hero's senior disciple is unforgettable. By seeing this, you can notice that Johnnie To is also a child of Hong Kong new wave. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member "Casino Raiders II" succeeds where the first film failed by being interesting the entire way through. Credit that to Johnny To's direction, though the script also features better pacing this time around. Melodrama is as present here as in the original, and while the gambling finale is not nearly as intense as that of "Casino Raiders", the rest of the film compensates for this. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Less gambling but a lot more speculative ultraviolence in Johnny To's completely unrelated sequel to Wong Jings Casino Raiders. To brings it on heavily, even makes the angelic Andy Lau rough up his girlfriend a bit. Hasn't got the finesse of Wong Jings original screenplay though, this is more of a standard revenge story. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member A good sequel. Well, not really sequel since it is different characters. Andy & Dave are good leads. The most sad and memorable part is when Andy go and save his girlfriend and his eyes got hit by the flourescent tube, and accompany by his great song in the background, I always cry at this part.
