Audience Member fine British film where an engineering firm is taken over by the workers thinking they can do a better job but soon get into bother. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Starts out slowly, then becomes a droll satire. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Out of a tradition of Wartime progpaganda films, that kept going for a bit aftwerwards. One of the co-writers wrote the much more hard hitting "Love on the Dole", amd indeed Director and one of the stars Bernard Miles was himself a veteran of another propaganda classic, "In Which We Serve". This made a great case for the middle way, it made the case against the extremists on all sides. The villains of the piece were the tough manager, the greedy capitalist owners, and the bolchie workers. The good guys, were the moderatate capitalist owners, the listening managers, the hard workering workers, and interesting the Trade Union- portreyed as the intermediatry between Labour and Capital. If only everyone was moderate, discussed things, the whole world would be a better place. A pitch for the middle way, the "Post War Consensus", as a political approach this lasted nearly 30 years after this film, as an industrial approach it just didn't really happen. The film made it's pitch well, interestingly within a few months Clem Attlee's Labour government was out of office, and Winston Churchill Conservative Party, professing acceptance of the Post War welfare state settlement was back in power. Well in tune with the times it seems. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
