When Jake (Cedric the Entertainer) awakes one morning in a strange hotel room, he finds himself in a bit of a predicament; there's a corpse in his bed and a briefcase full of cash. Not only that, but he cannot remember who he is or how he got there. He meets Gina (Lucy Liu), a waitress, who tells him he is a janitor at a video-game company and that she is a girlfriend. But Jake believes he is an undercover agent for the CIA, and he tries to figure out the truth.

Code Name: The Cleaner isn't the worse comedy ever made; it probably won't even be the worst of 2007. For the most part it's simply boring, with fleeting patches of ineptness.

The Entertainer conjures up some charm, and DeRay Davis provides pyrotechnics as a janitor/wanna-be rapper, but like the teddy-clad bubble-bath square-off between Liu and Sheridan, it's just not enough.

Its pretty bad in all the dumb ways you would expect. The writing and scenes are SO over the top dumb they sometimes become cringy (Dutch clogging scene, eg). The finale wanted to be 'Die Hard with a janitor' but ended up being 'Home Alone with a janitor'. I don't know WHAT Lucy Liu was thinking here - she must have owed someone BIG. Anyway, on the up side, the movie doesn't take itself seriously (which I miss in movies these days), has a few chuckles, and Cedric is generally a likeable clod (I think he has done a few of these types of roles)

Frivolously insipid, unfunny and aimlessly improbable as it utterly makes things up as it continues, downplaying its own hook for any sort of engagement as well squandering the cast despite actual few funny moments disconnected from the baseless parodic product. (C)
