Tirdad Derakhshani Philadelphia Inquirer Phase II has some nice comic touches, but it's a forgettable B-movie. Rated: 2/4 Sep 10, 2015 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety A fatal new STD furthers its grip on Los Angeles in this uninspired body-horror sequel. Sep 9, 2015 Full Review Simon Abrams RogerEbert.com It resolves all of the questions you never needed answered. It also follows all of the supporting characters from the first film that you you never needed to learn more about. Rated: 1/4 Sep 4, 2015 Full Review Brad Miska Bloody Disgusting Contracted felt like a first act to a movie, while Phase II feels like the second. Thankfully (*big, sarcastic sigh*), Phase II sets up a Phase III, giving us the grand finale we are so desperately (are we?) seeking. Apr 7, 2017 Full Review James Marsh South China Morning Post Poor writing and shaky performances, punctuated only occasionally by serviceable moments of gross-out horror, make this an entirely missable enterprise destined for iTunes obscurity. Rated: 1/5 Apr 6, 2016 Full Review Matt Donato We Got This Covered In a film that opts for gross-out gags over scares, Contracted: Phase II feels like a rushed stepping-stone towards bigger things to come if the franchise is to continue onward towards (disgusting) glory. jean-pol c My opinion--- Contracted: Phase II is a film by Josh Forbes was able to realize a sequel fairly close to the first part, after being infected the film will follow its evolution for the next six days, with a rather simple scenario, actors who will do their best To make plausible their interpretations that I found good enough, on the other hand I found the effects of makeup very well done and one follows well the evolution of the virus, this film is not especially explosive and follows on A rather slow pace, but still lets himself watch. Note that there are several scenes that are downright disgusting as the infection wins the young man, so I say good appetite. In conclusion, I put the same note as for the first part of this story, evening: 3/5. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member some good effects, some not good effects. didn't care about any characters. short and entertaining enough, but not something i'd watch more than once like the first one. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member I really just couldn't get over how horrible of an actress that cop was. Jesus Christ. I was cringing every time she was on camera. Pretty gross movie, but the effects were well done. The story made sense, and some moments made me laugh... but overall, I'd give this a C... maybe a C-. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member There's some undoubtedly disturbing body horror fun to be had but even without having seen this original, this feels like an unneeded extension that answers too many questions that we weren't even asking. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie was insanely disturbing and grotesque and extremely realistic to the gross level. It's exactly what I want in a zombie movie! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member A massive step-down from the already lower quality of the orignal, Contracted: Phase 2 spins its wheels for most of the runtime without offering much in the way of innovation and with an abysmal 70-minute runtime, doesn't justify its own existence. The plot picks up directly after the events of the first film as we now follow the moronic, Riley character who has now "contracted" the virus and begins going through the same horrors that Sam did previously. The real downside to this film is that the filmmakers don't seem to be taking any of the material seriously and at times it feels like a black comedy instead of the apocalyptic outbreak film they are so desperately trying to set up. We get to learn a bit more about the villains and what they're trying to accomplish, but most of the revelations feel half-assed and it sort-of contradicts the method of contamination that was used in the first film. Basically, this sequel is a placeholder to set up a larger universe with a mid-credit scene that sets up a third, doomsday-level entry; but if that day ever comes, I'm not quite convinced I'll ever give it a go. This film does have a pretty sweet idea where a girl affected with the virus tries to take her contact out and instead takes the whole eye, but her less-than-convincing reaction pretty much ruins the moment.
