Audience Member Good entertainment. Very well shot. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Dick Powell's in full force. Solid film! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Dick Powell is just out of the slammer, released from a life sentence because an ex-marine has turned up to validate his "drinking night" alibi for a robbery he didn't commit. He aims to set things straight and find the evidence that will free his buddy still in jail on an accessory charge. The police (and the ex-marine) want to see if he knows where the loot is. Director Parrish holds all the cards and only reveals them to us one at a time, keeping secret what Powell knows, who he suspects, and just exactly how he plans to tie up all the loose ends left hanging when he was sent up. Powell, the former child crooner (e.g., 42nd Street), sticks with his post-war persona (hard-boiled, tough as nails, and always ready with a wry quip) in this noir that brings together almost all of the hallmarks of the genre but feels a bit loopier than usual. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Dick Powell faces William Conrad, and wins ... eventually--A Class Act!! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member I don't usually enjoy film noir, but I caught this one on TCM one night and thought it was pretty good. Snappy dialogue, well paced, good story. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member so glad they were able 2 save & restore this noir in which powell like in 'murder, my sweet' plays a hard guy with lots of snappy dialogue and rhonda flemming!
