while Anstey is happy to pillage motifs wholesale from the Evil Dead trilogy and Straight to Hell, he lacks the pacing, and more importantly the humour, to make such materials seem anything less than hand-me-downs that have seen much better days. Go to Full Review

John C 08/14/2024 One factor for any good horror movie is that is must be atmospheric. However, the makers of Damned by Dawn take the word `atmospheric' to mean `foggy.' The film is about a young couple who return to their family home in the foggiest part of Australia to see a dying relative. However, a banshee pops out of the fog and causes brutal havoc. Now, I read some of the other reviews before I watched this and, I have to say, they kind of lower your expectations. But, for the first third of the movie, I had to wonder whether they were talking about the same film. I thought it was actually quite good. It had a nice (foggy) set-up and some potential. Then came the CGI. Not only are CGI baddies imposed on us, but also, if the cast happen to be running through a non-foggy area, CGI fog is added (and it's really bad CGI fog too!). The one dimensional characters just about manage to act their parts and the banshee's screaming is pretty creepy, plus there's some good gore (when you can see it through the fog), but, overall, I found myself eventually agreeing with the other reviews. It may not be the worst film ever made (not while Michael Bay's Transformers franchise is still on a roll), but it's definitely not the best. Unless it happens to be on and you feel like a so-so horror flick, don't bother paying to watch this. See more Emilliano Jr S @emill_santos 04/28/2024 Everything is worst in every aspect. See more 04/26/2019 All I can say is Lol this movie was really terrible , worst I've ever seen and puppet style special effects. Such a huge disappointment after making the trailer very viewable. I give this movie an F. See more 06/08/2017 I wanted to like this movie, but it just didn't work. If horror movies were new to me, then I might've been impressed. See more 02/10/2017 When you first look at this movie, you think of a bunch of people with their own cameras, at home, making a movie. Guess what, that wasn't far from the truth. A group of hopefuls borrowing cameras, using old school techniques, they actually pulled it off and seriously impressed me with their skills in film making on a non-existent budget, but really created some fabulous, memorable scenes of horror. Thought I was gonna say the acting there? No, unfortunately, that where this falls down. I'm forced to agree with some other reviewers about the acting, paper thin and undeveloped characters. I would suggest that it's not their fault. How much were they being paid? The real performance of this film belonged to Bridget Neval. Not only is she incredibly good at screaming (watch the making of) she also delivers a ghoulish performance as a banshee. As well as being quite hot. Seriously, this was bottom dollar budget with some good things going for it. Not in the league of Evil Dead, but shows what enthusiasm can deliver. See more 04/02/2016 Amateurish and annoying.
